the only reason is that fed needs to make sure there is no forced
liquidation of bear's positions, which would dump tremendous positions to
the market to crash everybody.
fed agrees to open the discount window to IB, but it was too late. Monday's
open of market may be crazy to cause a free fall of bear's stock to force
the liquidation, even the chance is not that high. Fed and the rest of the
world shouldn't take that risk. A buyout was the only solution.
