When USATT will get some funding from USOC to support USA juniors and make
some positive change in USATT?
Answer: If we win medal at Olympics.
Who is spending time and money to train our juniors throughout the year to
win first Medal at Olympic?
Answer: Player’s parents, supporting clubs, sponsors and ITTF. USATT has
limited budget to support them to play few tournaments only. It is very
important to win first medal at Olympics for the better future of our sport
in this country and for USATT to get funding from USOC.
When is the chance to win first Medal at Olympics?
Answer: Best opportunity is right there in August 2014 at Youth Olympic
Games. Team USA player Lily Zhang will be seeded in top four at the event.
Lily and her parents, her coach Massimo Costantini, ICC and sponsors have
spent lot of energy and brought us very close to achieve this.
Unfortunately USATT is not interested for this Golden opportunity which can
really make some positive change for Table Tennis in USA.
USATT don’t want to make any effort to send Coach Massimo Costantini for
Youth Olympic Games with Lily Zhnag as her coach. Massimo is training with
Lily very hard for last four years to win this medal for USA. He is one of
the highest qualified coaches we have in USA. Both the players qualified for
YOG from USA (Lily Zhang and Krishnateja Avvari) train full time with
Massimo and following his program for last five years. He meets all the
requirements USATT or USOC need to be the coach for YOG. And yes, Lily Zhang
is performing extraordinary with this combination and reached at world
ranking of 7th in World.
Now all of a sudden USATT wants to prepare training plan for both the
players, select a new coach to assist them in YOG. Does that make sense for
Lily or Krishnateja or their coach Massimo?
In any professional sport the training plan for the major events like
Olympics should be determined by the coach to be. In our USA, USATT
determined the training plan first for YOG before they even had a coach and
use that as a reason to exclude their well deserved coach Massimo.
USATT prepared unrealistic program for YOG coach to commit over 50-55 days
out of town training/tournament for both the players in next 3 months. This
is good if the player and coach don’t know each other or have never trained
with each other. This is also good if our players don’t have world class
training opportunity to prepare them for big events like YOG. This is not
required in current situation for Lily, Krish and Massimo Costantini as they
already train to gather with world class training partners and players to
prepare for YOG. Target is to win medal at YOG.
USATT don’t want to think on this practical situation. They don’t
understand that any active high level good coach cannot give up his ongoing
coaching assignment and training plan with such a short notice and go out of
country for two players. This is only possible with the coach who is not
active, retired or also has some vacation plans along with these out of
country training camps and tournament. USATT don’t want to consider
Massimo’s kindness that he managed to commit 30-35 days out of country
training with these two players. USATT don’t want to consider that Massimo
will also loose over $5K from his pocket for these 30-35 days as we all know
that USATT compensation is too low for these out of country camps. USATT
also don’t want to consider the amount of effort Lily and ICC has put to
gather to achieve this Olympic medal goal.
We definitely have coaches in this country to assist Lily and Krish for YOG
event. One of the camps selected by USATT for Lily with some other junior
players and ITTF hopes kids in China for 3 weeks in June with over 40 more
kids. Any junior player from World can join that camp with payment. Massimo
Costantini was not available and convinced to send Lily and Krish for this
camp so USATT was hurt on his decision and they decided to exit him for this
YOG coach position. There were more options open to manage this situation
by sendig only players or some other available coach etc.
Please spare some time to put your honest comment to this issue. Also
suggest what can we do different to change our USATT?

of the Year award in two different levels. None of them won. Now this? All
