show cardiovascular protection effects.
It does have significant GI adverse effects at the beginning of the therapy,
but they will subside later. Try your best to take metformin even a smaller
dose, unless the renal function cannot tolerate or severe adverse effects
like lactic acidosis develops.
What's your A1C? It's normal to have diabetic patients on multiple anti-
diabetic drugs. The second agent will be decided on multiple factors such as
postprandial BG, A1C, patient's preference on oral vs. injection, insurance
coverage, and etc.
