...one of the comments of the post. This guy put it the way just what I've
been thinking about recently. Well said.
Go eat McDonald and watch football in your couch and die from obesity, or go
climb a mountain and die trying. Which do you prefer? Which should we
discourage or encourage? No brainer for me.
"Hold on here, guys. We cannot single out people that engage in dangerous
sport activities like necronaux or nando suggest. I mean the whole south

Actually, most S&Rs have been done by volunteers. Climbing community also
donated money and helped to train volunteers for S&R. The money spent in S&R
from tax payers were really minimum, compared to tax money have been
wasted on other endless meaningless things...

all the major rescue teams on the west coast I know of consist of volunteers
, e.g. seattle mountain rescue, portland mountain rescue, yosar. all money
spent on mountain rescue natioan wide per year is probably less than the
cost to run the federal government for a few minutes.

I am pretty sure YOSAR is NPS (dept of interior) funded. Those guys make
nothing hanging at camp 4 unless they are on a rescue mission.
Not only the rescues are mostly executed by volunteer organizations, the
navy/airforce/army also need to fly their blackhawks for training and
practice purposes and often times the rescues can be incorporated in their
training regime.

yeah, yosar is operated by NPS. But the rescuers don't get paid nothing
other than staying at camp 4 for free.

Living free at camp 4 is one the benefits, but they DO get paid by doing
rescue jobs. There are veteran rescuers/wall rats who've been doing this
for decades. Married couples with kid can be found in YOSAR as well. They
earn most of their incomes in the busy summer, thanks to a lot of fuckups
in the valley and Tuolumne meadows, and go climbing Chilean & Argentine
Patagonia in winter time. One of last year's issues of Alpinist featured
some YOSAR members. Was a good article. I've met a former yos

这新闻与其说是争论费用问题,不如说是政府准备涨价的舆论伏笔,
One alternate method is charging climbers a fee for higher-risk activities.
就好象MT SHASTA那里一样,
我已经闻到涨价的味道了.

如果你还能想到费用的问题,说明你的情况还不算太严重,还用不着直升飞机

charging for SAR has two problems:
1. Put SAR members in danger if it is a paid service. Most SAR members are
volunteers and make the judge by their experience and ability and enjoy the
mement that life is saved. If get paid, it makes SAR a more dangers job.
2. Delay ppl's decision to ask for help and potentially complicate and
increase the SAR effort. If my friend doesn't come back to trailhead in time
, should I call for help? If there is a bill waiting here, probably I won't
do it which poten
