its locations. Out of those, eight of them reside in Manhattan. The news isn
't exactly a shock; back in June, reports came in that Daffy's couldn't pay
its vendors, and that buyers were actually forced to take vacation while the
chain regrouped. CEO Marcia Wilson was considering selling the company as a
last ditch effort, but it appears that she's chosen to go the liquidation
route instead.
WWD writes that store associates were given the news this past Thursday, and
that a liquidator has already been hired. Since they don't seem to be
wasting any time, the sales will start soon, and stores are expected to
close as early as September.
Whether you're a Daffy's enthusiast or detest going anywhere near it, its
zingy advertising will probably be engrained in your memory long after the
stores shutter—that, and the Manhattan Mini Storage ads that also plague
your morning commute. However, we're sure real estate execs won't drag out
the mourning period too long; after all, this means that new retail spots in
Times Square, Grand Central, Herald Square and more will soon be ripe for
