Effects of Deflation:
1. Decreasing nominal prices for goods and services.
2. Cash money and all monetary items increase in real value over time.
3. Discourages bank savings and decreases investment.
4. creditors gain at the expenses of debtors.
5. Associated with recessions and unemployment.
A reminder of the Macroeconomic stuff.....lol...

The outcome could be an “unintended steady state” like Japan’s slow-
growth economy. “The U.S. is closer to a Japan-style outcome today than at
any time in recent history,” he wrote.
I would say Japan is in Stagflation.

To me, right now the problem is, after the financial crisis, several key
data showed that people actually changed their monetary behavior --- from
overspending before to oversaving now. As soon as unemployment rate is
still high, the oversaving behavior might keep going --- which creates snow-
ball effects like jaff1973 mentioned.
How many people spend more in 2010 than they did in 2007? Probably less
than 25%.
If people don't spend their hard earned money, don't complaint if they get
laidoff.
