Upper Peninsula - Still plenty of color in the Upper Peninsula but you'll
need to hurry to catch the last of the peak color. Best places for peak fall
color now are routes near the shorelines of Lake Superior and Lake Michigan
. The highlands and interior regions of the Upper Peninsula now are a little
past peak with a lot of color still remaining but falling fast. The coming
weekend will be a "past peak" weekend with the best fall color near the
shorelines.
Northern Lower Michigan - This last weekend was a beautiful weekend for peak
color in many parts of Northern Lower Michigan. There should be a good
amount of peak color remaining through the week, however, by next weekend
some areas are likely to be past-peak. The best peak color routes for this
upcoming weekend - October 13 and 14 - will be near the lake shores. Good
spots to try would be the Tunnel of Trees north of Harbor Springs and the
coastal areas of the Leelanau Peninsula. Mackinac Island also should have
some nice late-peak color. Plenty of fall events still remaining. Stay tuned
