j****i 发帖数: 496 | 1 A question on high cholesterol for a friend to all the doctors out here:
A 34 y.o. female, who already has a healthy lifestyle (exercise 5+ times/
week) and healthy diet (high fiber/low carb) and who is not overweight and a
non-smoker, was recently found to have total cholesterol level at 255 (HDL
64, can LDL be estimated from this?). She has a family history of CAD (
mother diagnosed at age 56).
Should she consider taking cholesterol lowering meds? Are there other
supplements that she might try to help with her cholesterol level? | f****o 发帖数: 2770 | 2 i cannot estimate LDL unless i have the value of triglycerides
total cholesterol = LDL +HDL +TG/5
her HDL is 64, which means she is pretty healthy
she can eat more fish instead of pork/beef
fish oil capsule is good | j****i 发帖数: 496 | 3 Here's her break down from most recent lipid panel:
Total cholesterol = 303
LDL = 210
HDL = 65
TG = 140
Is there any effective way to lower her LDL without taking prescription meds
? What about beta-sitosterol? Do those supplements work well for lowering
LDL? Thanks!
