***我的基本情况：
USMLE scores: Step 1/CK/CS - 220+/240+/Pass (1st attempt)
Years post graduation: 9
Visa status: H1-B needed
Any advanced degrees: PhD in Engineering/Medical Imaging
Clinical experience: OB in US 3 months
Programs applied: 90+
Interview: 4 Rads
以上硬性条件对大家是一个鼓励，因为这是一个不完美的package，甚至可以说有2大致
命缺陷：Step 1的低分和没有绿卡，尤其对match radiology来说。我自己也很遗憾，
但是我认识的Radiologist 觉得我还是应该试一试。
我的教训就是分数一定要高，在match前尽可能搞到绿卡。因为缺了这两样，我想可能
有2/3的programs直接就跳过我的申请材料了。有了这些好的硬条件，可能会带来多一
些Rads IV.
再来说说软性条件吧。因为我的不典型PhD背景，我一直在Radiology做research。其实
我也很喜欢做Research，只是更爱Clinical Radiology。回头想想很多东西都是偶然加
机遇。因为近水楼台，所以认识了一些Radiologists。他们多数都很nice，给了我很多
指导。大家都说Connection重要，我要说这是靠自己建立和维持的。平时多积累，多帮
助周围的人，大家也会认可你的。我的Research应该做的还不错, 性格和语言也还行。
工作给我带来了很多说话的机会，虽然辛苦了一点，也还是值得的。我的经验就是多建
立Connections，Personality和Culture的培养，以及口语的加强。其实Match任何
Program都是一样的。以我的背景，想要去其他专业 也不容易。关键是要找到喜欢的和
可行的专业。我只能说我很幸运，前面的路还长，更要努力才行呀。

find your way toward radiology fellowship, such as doing some clinical
research in Rads, etc. Eric may have more ideas for your situation.
It is doable because I know it happened to someone. Good luck!

这个比申请residency更容易。好好利用中国的residency吧。

发帖数: 368 | 11 开会碰到好几个南美的radiologist,他们都是过来直接做fellow的。这样应该最容易，
不过做完fellow以后还需要美国的residency训练才可以行医，不过到时候你已经进到
这个系统里了，应该不会有什么问题申请。 |

In all clinical boards in US, ONLY Radiology can allow u after fellowship
but no residency to take boards, and as long as u pass it, u r certificated
radiologist and qualified to practice.
At least one of my friend very close to me already done his Rad fellowship
and is preparing for his boards but already got job offer >300K/yr.
another very old CMG got into residency in very decent program and quit it
after PGY-1 bcz he found only fellowship good enough for him to practice,
especially his original academic program (both r top 10 med schools in US)
also offered his position to expect him back--he used to be rad researcher
there and thus, once he done his fellowship, quit residencym passed boards
and back his original school to be an academic radiologist.......
Many state boards in other specialties can and do issue special certificate
to FMGs to practice in a given specialty in an institute or state, usually
these guys are big big cows from other countries, like UK, south Amm etc. In
our path specialty, the No1 big cow is from Italy and used to be the Chair
of SKMCC path. Harvar path AP PD is also a big cow from UK, both no US board
certificate of BAP, but no one dared to challenge these super guys in path.
Rad is the unique specialty in such generous to FMGs.
So, if u used to be radiologist in China and have >5yr practice experience,
u can try best to find such clinic fellowship in many programs in US, once u
r in, u don't need residency!!!

One of my wife's good friends got into Rad residency w/o rad background,
however she was super researcher working w/ her boss--Surg Chair, and had
many high tier journal pub, R01 or other awards/fundings, she did super
USMLE, her boss wanted her to do surg, but she (old CMG mom w/ 2-baby!)
wanted rad, so, her boss very strongly spt her and provided 1-yr surg intern for her, now, I thought she might graduate to practice.......
so many super old CMG moms on this track, that's why when I saw those CMGs
came here try to advice other ppl to quit, I have NO any respect to these
no-gut loosers who are only actively trying to drag other CMGs to be like
them!!!
What a kind of no-gut man, comparing to so many brave and smart CMG moms!
u did excellent job. Best wish to u for your super career....

就像你说的，性格和语言也也很重要，在美国，语言不行，早晚会被program踢出去，
一定学好英语。
就像你说的，“关键是要找到喜欢的的专业”。许多人找了不喜欢的专业，性格变的扭
曲。

PhD时思考了两年，因为对我来说，这条路不是必须。但是还是喜欢，比去公司，做
faculty还要喜欢。所以postdoc期间就打两份工了，苦了家人。真的感谢step1和cs的
一位考友，虽然现在联系不到她，从她那里得到了很多帮助和督促，感激在心！
