l********d 发帖数: 443 | 3 Well, according to the webpage below, green card holders seem to qualify?
lawful permanent residents (i.e., green card holders) who are “seeking
citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)(B);

But I'm not sure what it means by “seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S
.C. § 1324b(a)(3)(B)"

l********d 发帖数: 443 | 5 I checked with career service, and their answer is: you are eligible if you
hold a green card and file an affidavit to state that you intend to apply
for citizenship (naturalization) once you become eligible for the
application.

l********d 发帖数: 443 | 7 Thanks. I guess you are referring to the following
Non-citizens may be interviewed and considered for future employment. An
offer of employment can only be made if the non-citizen candidate is a
lawful permanent resident who is ‘seeking’ U. S. citizenship. A lawful
permanent resident ‘seeking citizenship’:
- may not apply for citizenship until he or she has been a permanent
resident for at least five years (three years if seeking naturalization as a
spouse of a citizen),
- at which point he or she must apply for citizenship within six months of
becoming eligible, and
complete the process within two years of applying (unless there is a delay
caused by the processors of the application).
According to career service, this requires just an intention to apply for
citizenship once become eligible. What do you think?

in! |
c*********n 发帖数: 52 | 9 Years ago (when I was in law school), greed card holders cannot apply for
federal clerkships except for those from certain countries, but it seems
that the rule has changed. Why not look up the relevant legislative history
to see whether you would qualify?
Regarding your other questions, please see my answer below.
federal court的clerkship申请资历要求有多高?
Yes. Generally speaking, it is easier to get a big law job than land a
federal clerkship. Your school should let you know whether you have a chance
. The exact requirement depends on the specific law school and the specific
court. Needless to say, federal appellate courts, especially 2d and 9th Cir.
, are very competitive and certain district courts, such as S.D.N.Y. and N.D
. Cal., are also competitive. A federal district court in Alaska, for
example, would be less competitor.
是不是law school成绩要特别好?
Of course. And you need to have law review experience. If you are not at a
T14 school, you'd better be in top 10% of your class. The point is that a
good law school typically has one or more professors dedicated to help top
students obtain federal clerkships. Check with your school and you should
have all the answer you need. |
