The nano group is seeking an Associate Scientist in our Danville, VA
location to support a number of programs involving the development of
nanomaterials-based therapeutic agents, drug delivery systems, and in vitro
diagnostic and biosensing assays. Luna owns and operates a nanomaterial
manufacturing facility, conducts innovative research and develops novel
carbonaceous, polymeric, and metallic nanoparticles tailored to meet
specific requirements for various applications in the defense and healthcare
industry. The foundation of the nanomanufacturing facility is part of the
regional efforts aimed at attracting high-tech companies to the Danville

The ideal candidate will be able to independently conceive, design, and
execute laboratory experiments, interpret data, and contribute to progress
report writing with minimal supervision. The candidate will communicate and
interact daily with team members having background in synthetic chemistry,
medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, and nanomaterials and may direct some of
their work to accomplish program goals. The candidate will work with senior
scientists and principal investigators to advance funded technologies
through experimental design and the establishment of quantitatively
measureable milestones.
Responsibilities also include conducting multiple parallel experiments to
support a number of programs, understanding the importance of experimental
results on the overall program objectives, delivering results under the
pressure of deadlines, and talking to customers and attending conferences.
The ideal candidate is also expected under guidance from senior scientists
to contribute to the origination of development projects and take
initiatives in identifying new research areas, expanding the technology
portfolio, and work with corporate and division level marketing functions to
supporting the commercialization of nano-enabled products.
