I am long for the housing in South California.
But I don't want to own a house.
Any better way not miss the wave?

Yes, there are several methods to long the housing market but nothing beats
owning a house in my opinion:
1. You can own non-agency MBS. Their price is closely correlated to that of
the houses which underpin their value, because rising prices reduces the
risk. But repayments are also higher when house prices are buoyant:
2. You can even buy shares of estate agency like Buffett recently did http://business.financialpost.com/2012/10/31/warren-buffett-teams-up-with-brookfield-on-huge-bet-on-u-s-housing-market/, The home builders or do-it-yourself stores shares can also be purchased.
3. You can buy shares of REIT that has rentals units in the areas that you
want to long.
4. You can be hard-money lender for people who long the housing marketing
with intention of flipping/renting them out.
But nothing beats a mortgage below 3.5% for 30 years from Uncle Sam when you
own the house outright.

agree. 住在里面省了房租。又享受了low interest loan. 还有抵税功能。

主要是这个问题:
我的房租只有$1700.
要买一个 Over $1M 的话, 自己住起来浪费也实在没有必要. 如果房间出租又降低生活
质量, 还不如住 APT.
就算抵税, 算下来每个月开支还是大了很多. 其实到最后吧这几年的税费利息算进去,
就是不赔不赚.
归根结底就是强迫性消费了 一个 豪宅. 如果家里人一大堆自然合算. 一个人就不合算
了. 而且住豪宅的生活质量还比 APT 差, 除了 BSO 时有点用之外.
到最后就是说我为 BSO 花了很多钱. :-)

挣钱的目的就是为了花钱, 不花钱, 为啥要挣钱? 就为了数钱吗? 偶告诉你, 住
在有view的1M的大house的感觉绝对比你住个APT 的感觉要好。。。如果住豪宅的生活
质量还比 APT 差, 就说明你赚的不够多, 就不必BSO袅。。。
