Australian or domestic (California/Oregon)?
For French wine, if you are looking for something below $50, I would
suggest Bordeaux since it is hard to find good Burgundy and Rhone below
50, not sure about Chablis, Alsace or Loire.
For Bordeaux less than $50, try the following: Langoa Barton, Clos Du
Marquis, Talbot, Duhart Milon Rothschild, Kirwan, Lascombes, Smith Haut
Lafitte, St. Pierre, D'issan, and Bahan Haut Brion, try to avoid vintage
2000 and 2005 since the price was artificially inflated too much, 2003
and 2004 should be ok. Don't buy anything later than 2006 since they are
too young to drink, even with extensive decanting. Vintages before 2000
from aforementioned Chateaus are either past their prime or higher than
$50, so no need to buy them.
For vintage of 2002 and onward, open the bottle, decant for at least 3
hours at ~68-70F, and then drink. Try to finish it in 1 or 2 days.
Otherwise put stopper on it (or reverse the cork to reseal)and store the
bottle in fridge, it's ok (not as good) for a week.
You can find wine price at wine-searcher.com. Price in TX, especially
Houston, is kind of high though. If you do buy from local store,
remember to put the wine in wine cooler (or fridge, not good, but can
make do) when you get home, and never ever let the wine be exposed to
extreme heat (>80F) and sun shine for long.
That being said, if you buy something around $10-30, no extra caution is
needed.
If your price cap is larger than 50, then there will be many many more
choices.

I'm not saying $2 Chuck is a bad wine for its price range, it is not. But
one need to have enough sample for any logical conclusion, right?

甚至还可能越贵的越觉得难喝。
其实如果就是为了抗氧化，喝石榴汁显然更有效果。

好喝了。

reason I drink red wine is to get the so-called heart-disease prevention

石榴汁其实比红酒效果更好，还不含酒精。
当然石榴汁是比较贵一些，不过50刀的红酒也不便宜，还难喝:D

普通超市也有卖另一种石榴汁的，是新鲜的，在冷藏区

你去网上查一查，现在普遍都说喝石榴汁或者吃石榴，
抗氧化，预防心血管疾病功效比红酒强很多。

虽然平时我也买这个酒喝着玩,但实话实说
这个$1.99的酒甚至比$2.99的也明显的就淡很多,倒出来象水一样,更不要说贵的了

Try to drink a 2007 Bodegas El Nido El Nido and a 2007 Bodegas El Nido
Clio side by side, these two Spanish wines are from the same vintage (2007
is good for Spanish wine) and terroir, one catering for lower-mid end
(Clio, ~$40) while the other for mid-higher end (~$90), you'll notice the
significant difference with the former having intensive floral nose, great
structure and long finish, while the later kind of out of balance (almost
like vintage port) with a hot and bitter mid-palate. There are countless
similar cases with French and Italian wines as well.
Now if you are referring to wine from Napa Valley, then I truly agree
since there are too many speculation and cult purchase. A $3000 Screaming
Eagle from any vintage is no better than a $300 Opus One, $100 or so
Dominus, Camyus or Stag's leap.

我倒是同意价钱不是标准。我们喝到最好的红酒是在意大利Florence一个餐馆里（
Latini), 桌子上的table wine, 4个欧元，LG说比我们下午在一个很著名的酒庄里喝的
还好（对不起，又没记住名字），那可是一瓶〉28欧元。 我LG那天把一瓶竟然都灌掉
了，平时他也就一杯打住了。
