address an instructor without a PhD.
It is safer to call a faculty member Dr. X that you meet the first time. .

professors Prof.XXX or their first name, but never use Dr. XXX, that's the
title for postdocs.

发帖数: 2353 | 5 没有吧，我觉得在成为同事之前，还是保险不要叫first name，dr. xxx 或者prof.
xxx都可以。个人经验是当年面试我或叫dr或者叫prof，后来到学校报道后，在某次又
叫其中一个dr. xxx的时候，同事拍着我肩膀笑着说－－你现在是我们当中一份子了，
叫我first name吧。

则就按professor xx. 我好像除了早饭以外，没碰到过没人介绍的情况。

become their colleague, including secretary and other non-faculty persons.
you need to keep that distance there to indicate that you know you are still
an outsider to "them"
always use Dr. XXX, because once one gets his/her doctorate, the title "Dr."
will never be taken away from him/her, no matter what professional title he
/she later gets. you can address the president of a university Dr. XXX and
he/she will not feel offended at all. same with any faculty member
Professor XXX is fine as well if the culture of your field is not to address
only postdocs Dr. XXX
