就是想问问这个位置有啥特别之处。

applied to the position and some of them did become the NIH intramural
investigators.

My former postdoc advisor served on the search committee last year. He told
me it was really hard for the committee to distinguish excellence among
excellence. >80% of the applicants passing the 1st round screening has at
least 1 first author science/cell/nature paper, > 35% has more than one.
The success of getting an on-site interview not only requires stellar
publication recorsd, outstanding letters, it also requires a creative
research statement that fits the mission of a particular institution (note,
E. Stadtman search is NIH-wide but the final selection depends on which
institute will be willing to "accommodate" the candidate as his/her final
home institute (if offered the position))
