A National Science Foundation (NSF) funded project has one research
assistantship (RA) for qualified students who will pursue a Ph.D. degree of
Computational Science (hhttp://www.csrc.sdsu.edu/doctoral_checklist_csrc.html) at the San Diego State University (SDSU) in Fall 2018 semester. This is a joint Ph.D. program between SDSU and University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine). The goal of the project is to develop, implement, and evaluate a storage-class memory (SCM) system for emerging and future data-intensive applications. The research assistantship will start in the Fall 2018 semester.
Required Qualifications:
1. A Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software
Engineering, or closely related areas
2. A solid background in operating systems (Linux/Unix)
3. Strong programming skills in C/C++
Desired Qualifications:
1. A Master degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely
related areas
2. Background in computer systems; and/or a few years working experience in
C
3. Interest in experimental computer system research
Detailed Information:
- You need to take courses at UC Irvine for one year. UC Irvine is located
in Irvine, which is about 80-minute driving from San Diego;
- Your diploma will be stamped by both SDSU and UC Irvine. Although your
degree will be Computational Science, your research is computer science and
your publication will be in computer science too;
- Your tuition will be paid by SDSU and Dr. Tao Xie will pay your stipend
from his research funding if you are selected. The application deadline is
15 February 2018. This program only accepts Ph.D. students in Fall semesters
. Your TOEFL score should be at least 82 and GRE (general) should be no less
than 1,100.
Preference will be given to students with a Master degree in Computer
Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or closely related
fields. Interested candidates should send a statement of research interests
(no more than 2 pages), CV, and photocopies of GRE (general), TOEFL,
transcripts, and diplomas to Dr. Tao Xie at [email protected] Detailed
information about Dr. Xie’s CASL (Computer Architecture and System Lab) can
be found at http://casl.sdsu.edu/. Two Ph.D. students recently joined leading storage companies in the world right after their graduation from CASL. While Dr. Wei Wang joined Western Digital in May 2015, Dr. Deng Zhou joined NetApp in December 2016. |
