正为系里维护一个网站，可supervisor要我track访问量，向他报告，faint,不知道怎么

(Shamed)，我能直接从网上download一个计算web page 访问量的东东放到要track的网页

they must know how to do that.
Actually, I do not think you can work on the web server directly, but
just ftp of frontpage your site.

I have the same problem with sevenup. The difference is that I need to track
user's action based on form's choice. Could you give me some ideas? thanks so
much.

file will be logged by IIS server. There you should be able to find the name
of the file, time of visit, ip of visitor etc. You can make a program to
read this file and do a statistical analysis on it.

reports... :) some are quite expensive though.

By using IIS's function, you can track hit number , ip address of visitor, but
can you also track user's specific action in your web site (for example, user
click given link for how many times?)

When a link is clicked, it is only on browser, and the browser will load the
clicked URL for the user, so nothing will the server for the document
containing the link know about the user action.

not exactly. when you click on a link within an HTML
page, typically (but not always!) the browser will
send in the URL of current page as referrer to the
server of the link. thus you can know your visitor
clicked where to get your file.
some browsers don't send this and bookmarked links
don't have it either.
to make tracking more reliable, some websites add
tracking tags to the URL.
