当你的 A-File 形成之后，该收集的材料也齐全了，换句话说你的 background check
包括 Name check 已经过了，那你的 I-485 申请就被送到 Workload Distribution，
准备分下去进行审查。
Workload Distribution (WD) 就是调度室呀，哪一位 VO 举手说，我手头的活儿完了
。于是，WD 就给他派些过去。VO 退回来的活儿，又进到 WD 来。
在前面我们已经看到，预处理的顺序是根据收件的前后，更准确地说，是收据日期。在
WD 这里，也同样依此顺序，按月排列。一般来说，WD 按排列顺序将申请发送到审查
者 (VO) 手中。但是，USCIS 的主管可以通过协调 WD 和 VO，来调整处理的优先级。
在 WD 里头，既有还没有审查的 I-485，也有正在审查的（如等 RFE），还有已经通过
了审查的（由于排期倒退而没有了 Visa 名额）。已经通过了审查的 I-485 但由于排

我们要去的这个中心即是赫赫有名，又臭名昭著的 Nebraska Service Center (NSC).
NSC, 又称 Lincole 中心，位于地瘠民贫的 Nebraska. 由于该中心的办公楼毗邻繁忙
的铁路枢纽（Amtrak 火车站仅在数百米之内），南来北往的火车噪音造成了该中心的
日益低下的效率。据 Michael Chertoff （Homeland Security Secretary 见图）的密
友称，USCIS 已有意将该中心挪至人烟稀少的 Alaska，以期加速其工作进度。这是后
话，暂且不提。
在这里，我们有幸地遇见了 F Gerard Heinauer 主任。但名字应该听说过吧，如雷贯

叫号儿的那人是 Deptartment of State （DOS, eg 美国国务院）。DOS 比较懒，只
是每个月在一块叫做 Visa Bulletins (VB) 的牌牌上叫一次号。同学们还得自己去查
那块牌，被叫着了号的同学，其申请谓之曰排期当前 (Priority Date is current)。
DOS 叫的这个号儿，与移民类别 (EB or FB) 和出生地国别，还有优先级别大有瓜葛，
互不相同且不得相互混用。通常，提前 2-3 周预发下月排期。
注意这里的出生地。你的现在居住西班牙，持加拿大枫叶卡，为巴西公民，等等，都
不改变你的出生地，所以还是和其他人排一样的队。
仅有的例外，是你的配偶的出生国的排期比中国快，你可以占到配偶的便宜 (
Alternate Chargeability).
以最新的九月份排期为例，"China EB-2nd 01 JAN 06"，这表明在中国大陆出生的第二

workload放在MPI_Wait之前没有问题啊。workload跟数据传输是并行处理的阿。等你的
program flow到达MPI_Wait的时候，数据传输已经ready了，没有process wait。除非
你的workload太short，到达mpi_wait的时候，数据传输还没完成。 |

退一步，即使模型可以参数化，如果 workload 如何，准确率就如何

我提 email spam 就是因为是一个很简单的模型，不用很复杂的参数调节
对实际的 workload 就能有很好的结果。
我们的 research，很多时候提了一个方法，对 1,2,3 情况有提高
可问题是在实际的 workload 里，根本无法自动区分 1,2,3
如果这个方法对 4,5,6 不 work 或者差很多, 你让用户怎么用？
当然新的方法是有意义的，但是对实际的系统很难有影响
80% 当然可以很实用，看 application 嘛
search 为例，把 non-sense 的结果放在前几名，用户没啥问题
大多数结果好就行了。可要是 facet search，把一些 non-sense
的 value 做 navigation 就非常的尴尬 |

。控制1C名额也不可能，只可能移民局审批时候提高标准，但是架不住申请的人多，标
准提高，总有人符合条件，那也没办法。

我摘抄点吧
Mailroom 是怎么 process 收到的申请的呢？申请一旦进了 mailroom 的大门，什么都
不说首先＂哐＂地盖个日戳，免得将来忘了是哪天收到的。然后按其收到的前后顺序进
行排列，常以月为单位。以后的处理，也是依此为序。
盖完了的申请，就被送到下一个工序，－－开包。所有的信封依照规定，都要三面裁开
，以免遗漏。拆开信封之后，检查申请费是否正确，表格是否签了名，移民资格是否通
过，优先日期是否当前，还有申请人是否在本辖区。倘若发现了任何一个＂否＂的答案
，就搁之一旁，准备退回。退件之前，这些申请将由 USCIS 的 Visa Officer (VO) 进
行确认以保无误。
通过了这个初步检查的申请，肯定是不会退了，就进到一个叫 Central Index System

just pay attention that the total amount of workload is more important
than how heavy and how many reps you are doing.
大肌群 can tolerate bigger workload, it also needs more time to recover.
whereas 小肌群 can not tolerate huge workload, so it is easier for it to
recover.
Remember the muscle grows during the recovery period, so watch out that
process, do not over-train. |

也分享一下我的想法。 除了风妹妹讲的这些以外，还有potential, which means
potential to earn more money or potential to go to next step to your career.
比如说partnership, chance to buy the share, chance to go to subspecialties.
还有一点我很注意，workload. i prefer to go to a place with less workload and
less pay, not a place with better pay but heavy workload. 如果我跟病人有足
够的时间交流的话，患错误的机会就会小些。即使一些小错误，lawsuit 的机率也会小

昨晚LA一夜大雨。我这人一到下雨到精神萎靡，早早地上了床，当时我不知道，我一直
依靠，一直尊敬的吴颖姐就在这个雨夜离开了我们。
初认识吴颖姐是上个学期。那个时候我初到USC。我在那个学期选了一门我并不太熟悉
的课EE450。当时最后要做一个project。我因为之前一直忙于一门负担很重的课，加之
本科真的不是Network方向的，对于project真的是一筹莫展，不知如何下手。于是去TA
office hour，当时TA被一个印度女生缠住了，TA旁边坐着一个看起来挺文静的女生。
我于是就先向这位女生请教了几个基本的问题。这位女生就是吴颖姐。吴颖姐当时很细
致地回答了我的问题，还现场演示给我看程序的运行情况。我之前一直认为女生读工程
类专业都不会太可靠，但是那一天吴颖姐颠覆了我的固有观念。就这样，我对吴颖姐有
了一个基本的良好印象。
转眼到了这个学期，我和一朋友一起选了EE586L，一门4个学分，完全做project的课。
Professor要求三个人组成一队做project。我和我朋友两人肯定不够。当时吴颖姐坐在

发帖数: 621 | 39 你这是胡说吧，MIT STANFORD HARVARD BERKELEY CALTECH的4门课是很正常的WORKLOAD
。当然你要四门都是CS或者工程课，确实WORKLOAD比较大，大多数人一般是3门
TECHNICAL + 1门HUMANITY这种。
不过中国学生好多上4-5门TECHNICAL的也不少。其实某名校怎么怎么难都是吹的，我感
觉完全比不上北清压力大。美国名校好处在于老师和视野，难度说不上特别大。
PHD要作RESEARCH的话，可能4门太多了，一般比较严格的导师要求你每学期只能选1门
课（研2以后）以保证研究时间。研1基本上就是上课，每学期3-4门TECHNICAL。
