The risk of a double dip recession has climbed sharply as the economy
endures the double whammy of slowing growth and wild swings in global
markets, according to economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal over
the past week.
The 46 economists in the survey—not all of whom answer every question—put
the odds that the U.S. is already in another recession at 13%, while they
peg the chances of going that way in the next year at 29%—up from 17% only

Sharp fall in German economic growth
By Ralph Atkins in Frankfurt
German economic growth slowed to a near standstill in the second quarter of
this year, dealing a further, unexpected blow to eurozone prospects.
The surprise deceleration in activity in Europe’s largest economy will add
to fears of a global slowdown and possible double-dip recession in some
countries – and will complicate the challenge facing eurozone policymakers
as they seek to combat the region’s escalating debt crisis.

'Very Muted Growth' Coming for Next 10 Years: Faber
On Tuesday August 23, 2011, 11:18 am EDT
Both the U.S. and Europe are facing a decade of slow growth brought on
primarily by the blunders of central banks, noted doomsayer Marc Faber said.
Investors should protect themselves by buying plenty of physical gold and
putting it in a secure location, preferably outside the U.S., the author of
