it's funny how we continue to make surprising finding about ourselves
through running. until a couple of months ago, i didn't know my right foot
has a higher arch than my left, which overpronates and causes pain in my
right ankle, right heel, right hip, and sometimes all the way to my lower
back. now days I wear a pair of superfeet insoles to support my right arch.
i thought i was the only one with this problem, apparently, i'm not alone.

ball landing, my calfs don't have enough endurance to carry me through an
ultra. In my last ultra race, I felt very natural to do forefoot/midfoot
strike at the beginning, and did it for at least 10-15 miles I think. At
some point my right calf got a little sore and I tried to combine a bit of
heel strike. But after 9 hours, when my ankles started to hurt, heel strike
became unbearably painful, and I was forced to run o |

triathlon sounds a little more fancy than running although I of course
considered myself a runner. You just inspired me to try a triathlon as soon
as possible.
A person who finished Ironman would be called "Ironman".
However, a person who finished 100 miler would probably be called "Crazy,
Insane, or Are You OK man" instead of "superman, ultraman..."

Just my thought that it is tough to keep playing at the highest level all
the time. US Open semi Shawa vs Mauresmo. 6:0, then 4:6 (?), then 6:0 again.
I think that Shawa let down a little and wow, lost a set. Same thing
happpened to Federer in the final, first game second set. And they are the
best players. For 4.5, can he/she keeps playing at their best level for two
sets and not let down a little against a weak player? |

M********t 发帖数: 5032 | 15 来自主题: Joke版 - 从引力波谈爱因斯坦的幸运 作者:施郁 (复旦大学物理学系) 2016年2月12日是中国农历大年初五。因为所谓“抢财神”的习俗,在零点前后,我当时所在的城市鞭炮声大作。这成了我浏览互联网上铺天盖地的引力波被探测到的新闻发布和原始论文的喜庆伴奏。当时, 我想到爱因斯坦的幸运,便开始写这篇文章。 爱因斯坦曾经感叹牛顿的幸运,而他自己又何尝不幸运至极。他在广义相对论方面的工作就有很多幸运之处。 在创立狭义相对论并为量子论奠基十年以后,居住在柏林的爱因斯坦在个人婚姻纠葛的时期,于1915年创立了广义相对论[1,2,3],并在次年预言了引力波的存在[4,2]。1918年他得到能量变化率与质量4极矩3阶变化率的关系[5]。美国激光干涉引力波天文台(LIGO)观测到引力波这件事正好成为对广义相对论100周年的纪念。 广义相对论的精髓是物质运动与时空几何的统一和相互影响,在引力场方程上表现为能量和动量与代表时空弯曲程度的量之间的相等。引力使得时空弯曲,需要用非欧几里德几何描述。爱因斯坦创立广义相对论时,物理学家对此还不熟悉,但数学上对于非欧几何已经有深入的研究。在20世纪50年代后的广义相对论和杨-米尔斯场论大发展之前,几何独立于理论物理,取得了长足的进展,可以用杨振宁的诗句“欧高黎嘉陈”概述(指欧拉、高斯、黎曼、嘉当、陈省身)。而爱因斯坦创立广义相对论时,幸运地得到了他的数学家朋友格罗斯曼(M. Grossmann)的帮助,导致他能够最终成功地将物理思想用数学公式表达出来。 创立广义相对论的高潮在于爱因斯坦1915年的一段非常紧张的工作[2,3]。6月他在哥廷根向希尔伯特等人做了一个星期学术报告,介绍他在广义相对论上的工作。10月,爱因斯坦发现自己工作有错误,还听说希尔伯特也发现了他的数学错误并正在取得进展。11月4日开始,按照既定安排,爱因斯坦在普鲁士科学院每周一次介绍广义相对论。经过非常紧张的工作,爱因斯坦终于在11月16日收到希尔伯特的引力场方程之前取得成功,并算出与天文观测相符的水星近日点进动。在11月25日的最后一次报告中,他终于能够写下他的引力场方程。幸运的爱因斯坦! 1861年,麦克斯韦写下后来以他的名字命名的电磁场方程组,在接下来的几年内他提出了电磁波的存在,并认为司空见惯的光就是一种电磁波。而完备的专著发表于1864年。赫兹在1887年(即麦克斯韦去世8年后)人工产生并探测了无线电波这种电磁波。与之类似,1916年爱因斯坦发表了一篇论文,预言了引力波[2]。爱因斯坦去世60年后的现在,引力波终于被探测到。在4中基本相互作用中,只有电磁作用和万有引力是长程的,所以引力波显然是了解宇宙的一个新窗口。 波是振动的传播。而引力波所传播的是时空度规的振动。度规是一种几何性质。比如平面或者球面上两点之间的间隔都可以用面上的坐标算出,但是公式不一样,这就是因为度规不一样。而在相对论中,有一个与参照系无关的固有时间间隔,它可由时间间隔和空间坐标间隔算出,具体的公式也取决于度规。当物质质量分布发生巨大的变化时,比如高密度天体(如中子星或者黑洞)之间碰撞或者恒星爆炸或坍塌时,会产生引力波。胡斯(R. A. Huse)和泰勒(J. H. Taylor Jr.)于1974年发现的脉冲双星(两个互相旋转的脉冲星)的轨道不断减小,这可以用引力波来解释。他们获得了1993年的诺贝尔物理学奖。理论上认为,宇宙极早期的暴涨会产生原初引力波,从而导致宇宙微波背景辐射在某个尺度上有某种偏振现象。该现象被位于南极的宇宙学河外偏振背景成像(BICEP2)望远镜于2014年观察到,但是后来发现是宇宙尘埃造成的。 LIGO观测到的引力波产生于两个黑洞的并合[6]。大约13亿年前两个黑洞并合产生的引力波于2015年9月14日经过LIGO的两个探测器。幸运的是升级后的LIGO在两天前刚开始运行[7]。这两个探测器实际上是两个巨大的迈克尔孙干涉仪。垂直于干涉仪通过的引力波使得每个干涉仪的4公里长的两臂的长度各有微小的振荡,导致振荡的相位差,从而给出振荡的干涉信号。110年前,狭义相对论解释了迈克尔孙干涉仪测量以太漂移的零结果。现在,迈克尔孙干涉仪又测量到了引力波,检验了广义相对论。确实,现代光学和精密测量技术对引力波探测立下汗马功劳,使得LIGO能够测出小于原子核大小的两臂长度差。历史上引力波探测曾催生量子非破坏性测量的概念,也有原来从事引力波探测的研究人员成为量子测量的专家。 回到爱因斯坦。1933年爱因斯坦移居到美国普林斯顿,引力、统一场论和对量子力学的质疑是他当时关心的问题。爱因斯坦和他的助手罗森(N. Podolsky)质疑量子力学完备性的论文(EPR论文)以及爱因斯坦和罗森关于爱因斯坦-罗森桥(即虫洞)的论文都未经审稿在物理评论发表[8]。后来的历史表明这两篇文章也极为重要,当然是应该发表的。EPR成了爱因斯坦被引用最多的论文。Kennefick认为引力波当时是广义相对论众所周知的预言,所以泰特经过犹豫后将爱因斯坦-罗森证明它不存在的这篇论文送审。而关于爱因斯坦-罗森桥的论文是当时与别人进行的一个争论,所以未经审稿直接发表。那么,质疑当时从一个胜利走向另一个胜利的量子力学的EPR论文为何不经审稿直接发表呢?笔者认为,这是因为EPR承认量子力学技术上的正确性,质疑的只是量子力学的完备性,即是否完全描述客观实在,讨论具有哲学性质。顺便说一下,最近这两篇论文在关于黑洞量子性质的理论讨论中被联系起来。 1917年,爱因斯坦将广义相对论用于宇宙学[11]。如果只有引力而没有斥力,宇宙整体上不能保持静止,所以他在引力场方程中又加了一个代表斥力的宇宙学常数项,虽然他也觉得这个做法很不自然(现在我们知道这也不能真正使宇宙静止)。但是很快人们开始讨论宇宙膨胀,从弗里德曼(A. Friedmann) 、勒梅特(G. Lamaite)和德希特(W. de Sitter)等人的模型研究到哈勃(E. Hubble)的1929年的观测发现。 大爆炸宇宙学的创始人伽莫夫(G. My thought on RAC in this scenario is that, RAC improves application
throughput, reduces application latency. You have to figure out/determine

an ugly language -- limited capability, hard to debug.
In the tide of AJAX, I take a look at current Javascript. "AJAX in action"
is my reference. Following are some random thoughts:
* I am surprised at javascript's support of functional programming. Java
plan to add it in SDK 7, falling behind. And it's interesting to know that
javascript has nothing to do with java.

You brought up a good point. I haven't really thought it through why I
wanted an MBA and how it can benefit my career. I guess I wanted a career
change. I want to get into the fancy industries such as IB, PE, etc... Also
, I was hoping that an MBA from a top university will somehow do me some
good down the road.
So I would appreciate any insights and comments. Thanks. |
