As many of you know, the Right Rev. Gene Robinson, the openly Gay Episcopal

Memorial event. It was the first event in the inaugural festivities this
year. HBO, which had paid for exclusive rights to the event chose not to
broadcast Bishop Robinson's prayer. So if you watched there you wouldn't

Of the State of Men after Death, and of the Resurrection of the Dead
I. The bodies of men, after death, return to dust, and see corruption:[566]
but their souls, which neither die nor sleep, having an immortal subsistence
, immediately return to God who gave them:[567] the souls of the righteous,
being then made perfect in holiness, are received into the highest heavens,
where they behold the face of God, in light and glory, waiting for the full
redemption of their bodies.[568] And... 阅读全帖 |

How then can one maintain that regeneration must precede faith and thus salv
ation? In order to support this doctrine it must be proved that the new birt
h is distinct from salvation, that being born again is different from and pr
ecedes being saved. For this, there is no biblical backing.
In numerous places the Bible declares that upon believing in Christ accordin
g to the gospel we receive eternal life from God as a free gift: " . . . tha

Calvinists object to the assertion that the natural man is "not so totally d
epraved that he can't hear God's voice and come to Christ." They respond, "T
otally depraved is totally depraved. It makes no sense to say man isn't so t
otally depraved." Not only is Total Depravity not a biblical concept, but as
the quote above shows, Calvin himself said that man is not so totally depra
ved that he cannot receive much truth from God; he just doesn't get enough t
ruth because God wi... 阅读全帖 |

It was common for Paul, having greeted the recipients of the letter, to move
on to a somewhat lengthy note of thanksgiving and prayer for the church in
question (except, of course, in Galatians where he is constrained to immedia
tely address their defection from the gospel). Such is the case here in Roma
ns 1:8-15.
Paul is thankful to God that the faith of the Romans is well known, undoubte

What Paul has been saying regarding the Jews, albeit somewhat obliquely in 2
:1-16, comes into the full light of day in 2:17-29. The fact of their hypocr

Romans 2:17-29 breaks down in three smaller units. In 2:17-20, Paul—through
the use of a series of conditional statements which are never really formal
ly completed—focuses on the particular claims of the Jew as one who was pri
