（1）很多时候公司也不是很清楚他们到底要啥，第一个公司来来复复很多email,他们
才似乎对于自己到底要什么做了更清楚的解释。系主任说很多时候公司的人，至少和你
联系的公司的人，就不是一个scientist, 或者更可怕的，自己以为自己是scientist,
但是其实啥也不懂。然后我写SOW的时候都不是很清楚。我一般就是写一个100%版本的
，然后问公司，你们到底想做多深入（100%，80%， 50%？）。不知道大家有没有更好
的建议。
（2）最大的问题就是被问要多少钱。我很多时候就是要少了，怕吃亏，要多了，怕别
人跑了。但是公司往往也不会说他们的budget是多少。
还是很想做公司题目，因为似乎至少申请的时候花的精力很少，就是一页纸SOW，电话
或者电子邮件讨论，不像正常grant都是大批文件要写。而且，公司的很多题目对于知
道工业界兴趣，觉得很有帮助和启发。

Best luck, since what's done is done.
For others, peppers and tomatoes are better off if you start seedlings in
house. They don't know what's transplant shock at all :)
Even if you had to sow directly, sow them into garden soil. From a plant's
point of view, mulch is not soil yet. |

自答：
开菜地最重要的是挑个好的location, 跟买房一个道理。
挑菜地的主要原则就是挑一块日照8小时以上的宝地，这一点重要得不能再重要，毕竟
，万物生长靠太阳，没有阳光什么都长不好。
还有两条不能忘记：一要考虑院子的整体布局，尽量保持院子整洁美观。二要避免靠近
树木的地方，即使眼下是不起眼的小树，过几年就会长成比屋顶还高的大树（第二条是
俺家的深刻教训，原来的阳光宝地现在都叫小树变来的大树挡了！）
Q2. lhr: 俺的问题就是后院阳光不好，种啥都不行，怎么办？

加了一点cow manure的泥土（据我个人的观察）。
我去年做了一个小实验。我从Lowes买了几包上面写有“Do not sow directly”的所谓
manure，然后我偏偏sow directly，发现植物都长得很好，没被烧死。
如果连HD卖的号称cow munare都不会烧苗，为什么要担心用庭院垃圾堆的compost？ |

指点看去，果然大有区别。昨夜刚下过雨，蒲公英绒球都被打散，眼前这家的草地上到
处戳着一根根光杆儿；马路对面的草地却像一块泛着光泽的绿天鹅绒，连个毛刺都没有。
和我们一样，蒲公英是欧亚大陆的来客。它的英文名dandelion，源自法文dent-de-
lion，形容其叶有锯齿，如同狮子牙。孙思邈在《千金要方》里称它为“凫公英”，指
它的果实像野鸭子颈上的绒毛。严格来讲，中国和美国的蒲公英并非同种，但都属于菊
科的蒲公英属(Taraxacum)。最早把它引进北美的人，也许是看中它清肝解毒的药用价
值。北美最常见的Common dandelion，学名Taraxacum officinale，这里officinale就
特指药用植物。
今日，蒲公英是北美庭院最常见的野草，其药用价值早已被大多数人忽略，为了杀死蒲
公英而喷洒的杀草剂成为主要水污染源。也有不信邪的，有位国人朋友喜爱它嫩叶的美
