decide on would be based on how much they desire for that thing/goal
etc. if you want something hard enough, your will would be strong enough
to last you through the tough spots. i for example don't really care abt

《沙漠革命记》(Revolt in the Desert, By T.E.Lawrence)，T.E.劳伦斯[2]，吕叔湘译
，辽宁教育出版社1997年3月
《沙漠革命记》一书是《智慧七柱》[3]的节本（not 洁本），而吕叔湘的译本又是该书
的节译本，薄薄一册，读得很不过瘾。幸好还有电影可以互相参照——《阿拉伯的劳伦斯
》一片正是根据了《智慧七柱》来改编的。
我们在传记、回忆录、小说等各式文学作品中，经常可以读到“他的一生充满了传奇色彩
”一类感叹的话，可是这些所谓的传奇，和劳伦斯那短暂而“充满了传奇色彩”的一生比
较起来，会显得苍白、黯淡、平凡、乏味，几乎不值一提。
T.E.Lawrence，1888年8月15日生于北威尔士的特利马多克村，1935年5月19日在英国某地

in grammar :-)
I don’t have any of his books on hand either. But this is another section I
copied down many years ago, from the ending of “Revolt In the Desert” after
Lawrence’s force captured Damascus. After all the bloody fights in the book,
there is this joy and tranquility that leaves the reader hoping for a future
for the Arabs (which, alas, did not last long).

本non-fiction book，作者：Michael Lewis，出版日期：March 31, 2014。此书被看
作是一窥华尔街高频交易的窗口。或者可以看一看。
其中一个故事讲到，一个叫Spread Networks的公司，通过铺设光纤、应用最先进的技
术来争取高频交易中宝贵的几十毫秒进行抢先交易；另一边是另一个叫IEX的startup，
通过新技术，发明Thor的算法、把38英里的光纤绕在鞋盒大小的盒子里，阻止高频交易
公司从抢先交易中获利。双方如何斗智斗勇。
书中还谈到俄罗斯裔技术天才Serge Aleynikov在Goldman Sachs维护高频交易系统，他
从开源社区获取代码，修改以后用在Goldman Sachs的系统中，但从未获准将代码回馈
开源社区。 离职时，因为带走了32兆的代码，他被Goldman Sachs起诉，被判入狱8年
……
