昨晚看men's health杂志，读到“多少钱才够退休”的文章，很受刺激，特此贴出以刺
激大家。
以30岁年收入$50,000（美国中产阶级平均收入）为例， 在mid-60's预计年收入可达$
300,000，其中通货膨胀率为现在的2倍，在那时退休，假设退休时想保持同样的生活水
准，那么每年从401K里拿出的年收入为90%的工作年收入，那就是$270,0000. 以活到80
岁为限，在退休时401K应该有$4,000,000.

BG建立一个使用年限10年，价值$1million的油井，预计十年后拆除油井的费用的现在
价值是$100,000.将其计入asset retirement cost(ARC).前两个数值均采用straight-
line折旧。在产生ARC的同时，为平衡账户，a liability for Asset retirement
obligation（ARO）也产生了。
8年后，ARC折旧成$20,000. ARO是$175,000.因为拆除油井的劳动力的价格下降，BG调
整了ARO，减少$50,000,ARO变成$125,000.
问题：$50,000的下调怎样影响income statement的？
我不明白的地方，本来ARC变成$20,000后在剩下两年每年折旧$10,000，下调了$50,000
让$20,000-$50,000，使ARC变成了负数吗？还怎样计算折旧成本呢？

我曾在美国做访问学者，现已回国。临走的时候去学校HR填写相关表格，知道如果离开
美国的话，有一部分从我原工资中扣除的费用（是养老保险吧）应该由所在州的TRS，
即Teacher Retirement System以支票形式返还给我。当时跟HR咨询的时候说可以给我
寄到中国，并说这样的话可以不用缴纳一个什么费用，我听她这么说就同意了，另外也
是不想麻烦别人（我知道以前有人都是让TRS把支票寄给在美国的朋友或者同学，然后
让这些人再帮忙寄回中国），因为是钱的问题，怕万一有个闪失别人也说不清楚，因此
我填了国内老家的地址，但现在回国已经半年一直没有音信。曾给TRS打电话问过，说
我这样的情况，需要先填写一个什么表格，然后才能给我寄支票。但他们寄出的表格我
一直没收到，不知道他们是不是填写错了地址（因为老家毕竟不是北京这样的大城市）
或者国内的邮递员没能辨认清他们的笔迹。
事情的麻烦在于跟TRS联系只能通过写纸信或者打电话进行（没有email联系），且不说
在国内打国际长途的不便，本人的口语也一般，因此难免交流有障碍。现在我想，是不

Keeping the value of your contribution will hardly help you archive your
goal -- funding your retirement life. So you should think of long term, so
at least put some money into stock market. If you do not know much about
investment, the 2035 fund might still be a good choice.
That said, if you really cannot stand loss, you can switch investment to a
money market fund if available, otherwise, pick the Lifecycle fund that is
closet to now, such as 2010. |

1) salary
2) any gain/dividend from stock market (although the gain rate may be lower)
3) withdrawal from 401k, traditional IRA
4) min distribution required by IRS
Those are not counted:
1) withdrawals from roth IRA
2) withdrawals from pension
Some are not sure:
1) ss benefit (for low income, then ss benefit is not counted as income, for
high income, then ss benefit is counted as income)
I am pretty sure some of them are wrong. |

that different optimization criterion requires different approaches. To some
people, paying less taxes is important; to others, having the money last
longer is important; or to maintain a steady and worry-free monthly payout,

你自己的退休帐号里。 IRA= individual retirement account.
roll over 后便于管理，你可以想象一下你有好几个银行的帐号，或
把钱放到一个帐号里，哪种管理起来方便有效？
roll over 是没有penalty的。
penalty是指在59.5岁前distribution要有的， 你可以看看具体的Policy ，
不是所有的操作都会有penalty. |
