1865年1月底，中太平洋铁路局四大掌门人("Big Four")之一，总负责人Charles
Crocker与施工总监James H. Strobridge面谈，让他尝试雇佣华工。Strobridge是爱尔
兰人，他的第一反应是轻蔑和气愤。在几乎所有白人眼里，华人形象负面居多，他自然
不屑于当华人的老板，让身板矮小的华工肩挑铁路重担更令他难以想象。Crocker说服
他的理由是曾有过大约20华工修土路，而且干活不错（土路指的是Dutch Flat and

On January 26, 2017, only two days before the celebration of the Chinese New
