programmer是一个有点贬义的称呼，在正式title里应该不会有人自称programmer的。
principle是principal的误用。
principal engineer（首席工程师）是和director（总监）一个级别的。
lead engineer不是一个很正式title，有时候是因为title里面没有反映（还是普通
engineer），所以给个lead的名分。 lead engineer可以是engineer,senior engineer
或者staff engineer,但几乎不太可能是更高的职位。 |

Statistician的工作主要是review protocol,写documentation (SAP和file specs),QC
programmer做的table以及review listings。SAP里面包括table shells和listing

-oriented。SAS用的好是个definite plus，不过macro一般用不着。平时的工作既要和

programmer，因为我没有经验，只在学校里做过GA,接触过几个project
面试只问了数据处理和PROC REPORT的使用情况，
不过我想做biostatistician,是不是只能找学校之类的做staff啊？至少现在药厂很少找小硕了

，怎么study design，怎么统计分析。这样的人，我是佩服得紧。
软工都有这问题，老了如果不是升上去做manager，最后八成要被年轻的淘汰。在编程
上，那效率真是差一大节。对sas programmer来说，senior的价值应该是懂很多工业界
的standard。如果到了senior还在编程，那劣势真的是挺明显的。至少我自己的
project lead programmer一定找效率高的，耗不起那时间。
我倒不是歧视senior，我只是在说效率问题而已。在哪儿做，效率都很重要。至少
statistician肯定愿意跟干活又快又好的sas programmer合作。 |

可以说，statistician是和SAS programmer合作最多的人了，所以从我的角度来说说一
个好的programmer的标准 （仅适用于pharmaceutical).
首先，在工业界，好的sas programmer有哪些sas 技能是必须要懂的： 我会说macro，
ods, 产生TLF的proc report或者data null，别的东西你都可以让statistician给你写
spec,哪怕proc means, proc ttest, proc freq. macro和formatting这两样
statistician没法帮你。因为帮了就等于把你的活给干完了。当然其他的比如,proc

一直都对统计挺感兴趣，上了很多门统计课，毕业论文做bioinformatics的Network
Visualization的时候就用R做了挺多统计。最喜欢的是统计那种数理分析的抽象思维，
这点比单纯的实验更有意思。SAS Programmer不见得统计水平要很高，但是不懂统计压
根就没法做一个好的SAS Programmer，没法了解clinical trial里盘根错节的概念，很
难跟Statistician深入沟通。
不是因为这个工作容易找，现在人多，统计毕业的就一大堆。很感谢John的Bancova培

在国内师范毕业的历史老师在这边做programming lead，做得风生水起的。问她知道正
态分布么，她说，嗯，听说过。。。power analysis其实是实验设计的一个核心部分，
绝对不是简单的programming工作。况且，它的理论背景要求远远超出了一个

其实关于找非programmer方向的想法，我一方面是担心自己的CS背景不够过硬，另一方
面是因为考虑到未来CS programmer的从业人数，饱和是迟早的事情，加上可能的职业
天花板，再转型恐怕也是不能避免的。那么，早些做打算可能会更好一些。
PM对口语与写作的要求相当高，所以楼主估计想qualify也要下相当大的工夫才能达到
吧。
不知道论坛里有没有前辈是本身在美国做PM的吗？我知道有很多PM其实也需要大量的
coding，只不过比起开发的人，更接近产品和客户，以后的职业发展可能会有更多的机
会。
我完全是一个新人，懂得太少，如果有什么太单纯的想法还请大家指正。 |
