Hi,
Does anyone know if ketone containing monomers are compatible with radical
polymerization? Some people told me ketone is not stable when radical
polymerizatios are performed.
Appreciate any of your ideas.

I don't think the free radical can make it, degradative chain transfer could
happen. However, the cationic polymerization probably do. If you have time,
check out some textbook on polymerization, such as Odian's. Take a look at the
table for monomer and corresponding polymerization method. Generally vinyl
ether can not be polymerized by free radical.

来组里4年了,换了4个课题。
第一个课题,老板不是很懂,以为新能源好申请funding,让我一个刚进组里的、只有
本科学历的人自己搭平台。结果可想而知。
第二个课题,老板算是领域内小牛,但那都是10年前的事情了。结果是还得靠自己找课
题,自己做实验,每天trouble shooting到深夜。一问老板,得到的结果都是“I don'
t know.”或者一些根本不靠谱的指导。做了一年,算是自己每天吭哧吭哧地弄出来些
东西,写了篇文章准备找个小刊物(IF<3)发掉算了,结果老板表示兴趣不大,到现在
都不给我改。你TMD不给我改,能让我直接投出去算了么?大不了被拒了老子直接翻译
成中文找家国内的核心期刊投了拉倒。
第三个课题,垃圾领域,基本无就业机会,但是好刷文章。被老板扔到这个领域,现在
做了几个月,攒了些数据准备写写弄弄找个小刊物投了凑数,毕业拉倒。结果每次去找
老板聊,得到的回答不是“I don't know”,就是长达数小时的胡言乱语。最后听实验
室另一个也做这个领域的仁兄说,老板在这个领域里读的paper还没有他多。。。

but personally I don't think it is a good criterion.
Block copolymer may not be formed if you add propylene to living anionic
polystyrene...
block copolymer will be formed only when two monomer are similar in reactivity
in a specific polymerization (such as styrene and butadiene in anionic
polymerization). when the two monomers are quite different in reactivity, the
block copolymer may not be formed or there may be contaminatio

Ziegler-Natta found catalysts around mid 50 too.
(1)The advantage of ATRP is very clear.
it conbines the advantages of free radical polymerization and living (or
controllable) polymerization together.
(2)People benefit from ATRP because it offers an easy way to synthesize
polymers with designed structure.
(3)Industrialization is very important, but it is not impossible. The key part
is to solve the catalyst problem.

choose the solvent for the polymerization, you need to consider many factors.

严格定义活性聚合的话,只有活性阴离子聚合,阴离子是永生的 不需要别的东西
活性自由基的话,“活性”要加引号,其实只是可控而已,可以通过可逆终止(ATRP等
)也可以通过简并转移(RAFT等)
普通的自由基聚合是很快被灭掉了
快速引发我觉得只是为了降低pdi吧,阴离子的话不会因为引发慢了就不是活性的了
“活性”自由基聚合也不见得都要求快速引发,具体我不是太了解
以上只是讲了chain growth polymerization两种情况,没包括 ring-opending
polymerization
往大了讲还有step growth polymerization,所以你说的普通聚合并没有定义清楚。。

其实,atrp就是马组和日本组独立同时发现的。
后来的raft不比atrp差阿。怎么能说它是非主流呢。。。
看看这三篇文章,95年以来引用次数最多的三篇大分子。
第一篇和第三篇是atrp,第二篇就是raft。
当然,王锦山先前在JACS上已经发了片引用超过2000次的。

Would you be generous enough to provide the data at all your concentrations?
It looks to me that the TG results are reliable, although seems that you did
not do the background subtraction. Also, how much samples do you use each
time?
I have no idea about this Rhodamine B. Do they polymerize in the solution?
There is the possibility that some molecules will polymerize at higher
concentrations, and then the polymer is larger than the pore of SBA-15...
