it's not necessary to get the more expensive courses, such as PLI or Barbri.
Longacre is a good one to go with, at $1k. patentbar.com is not that good
from what i heard, it's mostly a reprint of MPEP plus a bunch of old exams

is chemistry, which is not on the USPTO list. I can meet the alternative
requirement of having taken >30 credit hours of chemistry courses. But how
to prove my eligibility? Can I mail sealed transcripts to the patent bar
exam registration office? Or otherwise?

following description: 1) they do not enjoy doing bench work, 2) they are not

(1) 报名 我是拿到绿卡以后考的,对持H-1B签证时报考的手续不熟悉. 我的理解是,
所谓和专利事务相关的工作,不只限于Law Firm,大大小小的公司，只要能出证明，应该
也可以．
(2) 准备考试
LSAT 是一个 skill-based exam, 而Patent Bar Exam 是一个 knowledge-based exam
． 只做以前的考题是不够的. 象中学政治考试一样，总有一些需要记忆和熟悉的内容
．我有一个朋友借给我一些ＰＬＩ的学习资料，包括很多磁带，我在地铁和汽车上听了
很多遍，在Amazon上买了一本ＭＰＥＰ内容提要和练习，结合做题又看了ＭＰＥＰ的一
些章节．年纪增长，这些东西也不容易记下来了．但是多看几遍，总会有进展．最初的
十来个小时可能会觉得非常枯燥，熟悉了就会觉得还有些意思．
现在是机考，很方便．考题总有一些重复的,在

2. 国内的成绩单早晚是需要的,比如申请工作的时候或者申请LAW SCHOOL的时候,
以后经常会发现要用到,还是早办好.
3. EBAY等地有卖的,图书馆里也有一些基础材料
4. 似乎很好.不过不是每个学校的CS专业毕业生都可以考PATENT BAR.
过分关心PATENT BAR考试有点舍本逐末.真正重要的是相关的知识,经验,和
比较好的SCIENCE/ENGINEERING背景,考这个试和第一份工作之间的关系

an Engineering PhD and want to do patent, congratulations.
I assume you haven't had the registration number with USPTO yet, so
technically you are not qualified as a patent agent. You will need to apply
for positions such technical specialist or technical advisor to get in.
The best way to find law firms? Google search "top IP firm" to find a
ranking list. Then google each firm and look at their career section. That's

第一年差不多有160K吧,那做specialist或者再好一点做到patent agent薪水恐怕也不
会比160K多吧,可要是拿不到120K的话,也不会比在EE/CS本专业的工作起薪高呀?

100K。
这个起薪比起市场好的时候EE/CS的FRESH PHD能拿到的OFFER没有什么吸引力，所以LAW
FIRM里面EE/CS的PHD比较少。但是从工资增长的POTENTIAL来讲，在LAW FIRM比在一般
TECH COMPANY里会高不少。
这个一样是要看SUPPLY/DEMAND，比如说SCIENCE的PHD多，EE/CS的PHD少(一个是绝对数
量少，另一个是待遇并不COMPETITIVE)，后者找PATENT AGENT就容易些，起薪也可能会
高一些。另外，灵活性应该也大一些，不象ASSOCIATE，大家都是160K。

司里做的非常顺或者靠股票发财，当然工作强度也比较高。
有些FIRM还PREFER PATENT AGENTS，因为比较容易BILL TO CLIENTS，所以还有PATENT
AGENTS读完LAW SCHOOL 反而被告知另某高就的例子，当然可能只是个例，或者有其他
原因。很多时候这还是取决于SUPPLY，申请人少的时候，你的待遇，工作的SECURITY程
度自然高，反之，两者都要COMPROMISE，这就是MARKET ECONOMY。 |
