The opening ceremony was a bit of a grab-bag, wasn’t it? I thought some of
it was great, some was rather bad and quite a lot of it will mystify the
foreign TV viewers (95% of the audience) who it was supposed to dazzle.

clause。因此和学校是否公立私立无关。关键在宗教上，因为是教会学校，原则上政府
不资助（有时资助课本可以）。宪法制定该条款的目的是政府不过多纠缠与宗教，对公
立学校的一些宗教方面的限制是基于不将宗教过早强加于孩子，而是孩子成人后自己做

这一段时间我本来打算好好工作，好好看奥运。但是不想自由派们，公知们（下面自由
派和公知可以通用，差不多是一个意思）在网上避都避不开，他们就像一群苍蝇一样在

小差看其他的书）；不好运动，可以坐上几天不动，逼自己运动时选最偷懒的偶尔旱冰
，等到勘察北大哪里有地并请求学校解决生物发展的必需空间后，旱冰也减少到只在小
区里转；还有落后愚昧的偏见，当儿子小时候立志要做奥林匹克击剑运动员的时候，我
没多吭气，等他不要做的时候，我暗自松了一口气；不看体育比赛，出国前看一点电视
上的足球，在美国统共看过一次美式足球（斯坦福大学对加州伯克利）、一次棒球（忘
记了谁对谁，只记得一位买冷饮的特别有趣的吆喝声）；对奥运也兴趣不大，在国外的
时候都没收看，某年华人批美国播音员歧视中国，我毫不知情了，回国后的两次奥运，
我看了开幕式。
虽然对运动无兴趣，不过，体育运动所相关的一个问题：群体互动，却与我近
年的科学研究相关。我们迄今主要研究动物的社会关系，对人的研究不多，不过需有所
了解。

常感谢饶毅对他们的教育和反击，包括这次伦敦奥运的nature偏见门事件。
不过再回到饶的博文的题目上来，有一点儿不明白，为什么饶毅年轻时不爱运动？到了
年富力强的中年，要“献身”科学了运动少些也许还可以理解。
但是多运动于己于家于国都是益事，更何况奥运的宗旨不也就是鼓励人们多运动吗？

洛杉矶地区没有最好的私立高中，只有最合适的私立高中。四所最严格私立高中是
Flintridge Prep, Pasadena Poly, Webb 和 Harvard-Westlake. 有些人可能会说最严
格的就是最好的，但对于大部分学生来说这种说法不对。对于大部分学生来说这种严格
的学校压力过大，每晚五小时的家庭作业 (脑子好使的), 加上周末，从九年级开始就
用大学程度课本。再加上2到3小时的体育训练或者演奏练习，加上社团，公共服务，和
课外活动。在申请大学的时候，大学不会因为你上一所非常难的私立学校，而对你网开
一面，反而在这里更难拿到好成绩。
最好从你所居住的周围开始咨询，因为你不会想要每天开很远的路程。就算是比较不那
么难的学校每晚也有3到4小时的家庭作业。有些学校有非常强的运动计划或者艺术计划
，所以选什么学校完全看你需要什么。不要太看中升学率，因为那主要取决与学生而不
是学校。
很多洛杉矶的天主教学校也收一部分非天主教的学生。天主教学校的费用通常只有私立

U.S. soccer fans can find this consolation in last Saturday's still-stinging
2-1 loss to Ghana in the World Cup: There are 1.3 billion Chinese who don't
give a damn. Well, actually, not all of them don't care. Americans are
frequently accused of being parochial for not loving soccer as much as some
countries do, but we're in good company. In China, soccer is popular, but no
more so than ping-pong and basketball are.

of course there are many more public school students applied. The acceptant
rate of private school should be higher. But it is not 20% vs 80% as LZ said
