发帖数: 153 | 3 这次在ACAP的CMG会议上，有几个朋友问到是否应该选择一些challenging、
competitive的专业的问题。我觉得这是一个非常individualized的问题。在你作出选
择之前，你至少要问自己3个问题：1. 你有多喜欢这个专业？2. 你有多强？3. 你是否
输得起？
再热的专业，只要你够强，只要你够有决心，一切皆有可能。像AMG都难得进的
Radiology, Radiation Oncology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, orthopedics,
urology等等，都CMG进去的。当然进这些专业要跟AMG中的精英竞争，一般来讲，失败
可能性肯定会大一些。但是仍然有可能。如果你只爱骨科，非他不嫁，即使粉身碎骨也
在所不惜；如果你的老板是牛到他一句话，program director都得给你create a
position；如果你年纪轻，有万贯家财，不用担心油盐酱醋米，you can try anything
you want。
如果你package一般，没有牛人推荐，老婆孩子还指着你买米买柴，只因为在国内做过

Actually there are 3 routes leading to Ortho.
1. Directly apply for Ortho residency. Very tough even for AMG. Strong "
hardware" (USMLE scores, LORs, publications, etc) and "software" (
connections, USCE etc) are must. But I heard one CMG matched last year.
2. Finish GS residency first, then apply for hand fellowship. (I don't know
GS can apply for Ortho, though GS can apply for 2-3 ys plastic surgery
fellowship). You can only do hand surgery. One of my CMG friends (previ |

（好像毕业大概13-14年的样子）。不过他原先就在那个program做AP，有自己的lab,

CS pass, need H-1b visa go into Orthopedic Surgery fellowship at Wash U.
Meanwhile his wife was admitted at dept of anasthesiology residency at Wash
U. Can you imagine that? The key is connection and your own strong
background. Try our best to establsih connection and strengthen our own
background like improving oral Englsih and interview skills...

urology, orthopedics, etc hot specialities in past several years. Many are
CMGs with grad > 12 ys. The doors are always open to us, but the journey is
wining and extremely tough. If you try to chase such dream, you'd better
well prepare yourself several years prior, not only in the exam, also in
research and connection to doctor in your interested specialty. A decent

Step3与流水账
时间：准确的开始日子是2010-11-14，结束日子是2011-1-25日，历时72天。其中11-14
～1.1日以Mark & Jason
Family medicine为纲，外加UW Qbank MCQ，复习Step3 MCQ内容，间插小组讨论；1.2
日模考NBME，1.3日－1.22
日以UW CCS为纲，复习Step3 CCS内容。1.23日模考UW。1.24考48题×7个block MCQ，1
.25考36题×4个blcok＋9
个CCS case。复习时间是每天2个小时，周末4个小时，Thanks giving＋X'mas＋new
years大周末6-8个小时/天。
Checkpoint：family medicine review－》NBME（540）－》UW CCS－》UW模考（600）
－》考试。相对于前两门
Steps拿99的重要性，Step3的99属于装饰品，所以NBME和UW模考的Checkpoint没有定得

１。 我为什么要考 Board。 简单的一句话就是 '不甘心'。我毕业后干过三年心脏麻醉, 然后在药厂混了两年, 98年来美念Ph.D，刚开始念，师兄师姐就告诉我说前途暗淡. 一条路是念Ph.D，考 Board，但当时他们说考试很难，Match 更难，而且必须得有Green Card，所以当时就放弃了这个想法。但我也不想接着念 Ph.D，当时我一个同学在念 Epi Ph.D，说着这个以后找工作不错，于是一学期后转了过去念 MPH in Epi and Biostat, 毕业时IT正是火爆的时候，很多人都去念了IT。生统的工作非常好找，就这样我开始工作了，一直到现在。生统的工作其实满稳定的，收入也还可以。但我一直觉得不考 Board 是很亏的。首先，先不说收入，省的有些人又开始说其他工作如何如何。大夫是一个非常受人尊敬的职业，而且非常稳定。所以Aremican花那么多钱和时间去念医。而且他们允许 I... 阅读全帖 |

that amount of money if not illegal. Ortho is unlike GS which leave you less
room to improvise. Real smart ortho surgeons improvise a lot and have a lot
creations during surgery. That is the beauty part of ortho surgery. After
watching one ortho surgery, you will tell how smart the surgeon is. Such
talent has less correlation with test scores though. |

位从阿根廷来的年轻小伙父亲是骨科医生，他就特想做这个，子承父业，一边和我们混
内科住院，一边还再继续申请，结果我们三年混毕业了，也没申请上。
我也特想回去，但是小孩子大了，只能呆在这儿了。我的朋友还没有一个回去的。希望
回去的同志们有机会的话也聊聊，给这边儿一点insider 的信息。如果可行的话，等小
孩儿上大学后还可以try,那时也不过40来岁，作为医生还不祘太老吧？反正不是做外科
的。（做外科的同志不要扔砖）。 |

说起牙医在中国，倒让我想起一事儿，那就是在美国，美国人都特注意口腔卫生，牙齿
的美观整齐。所以牙医的收入才会高。但是在中国好象还没有普及这个意识。我的ex是
干口腔外科的，那时在中国，他的收入就没有我的高，因为没有病人。不过我们来美国
也有八九年了，不知现在情况是不是好些。 |

一跳， 以为是去年报税又被抓了， 他们一介绍说是EMORY UNIV ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY
， 接到我的RESIDENCY申请， 想面试一下， 我只好叫他们进屋， 家里乱七八糟没来
得及收拾， 只好告诉他们家里有3个嗷嗷待哺的娃， 他们表示理解。
给他们泡上茶以后， 他们问了问啥茶， 象征性的喝了几口，就开始问了， 主要是说
国内做的怎么样， 一天下来到家是几点， 上不上门诊， 有没有人带， 为啥喜欢他们
的PROGRAM， 有没有了解他们的PROGRAM， 最后问问对他们有啥问题。 虽然我都听懂
了， 但是完全没有准备答案， 结结巴巴我看的出他们不知道我在说啥。
现在怎么办？ 要不要发感谢信？怎么发？

need to go to your family doctor first to get a referral. You can also go
to a sports medicine doctor (specialized internist) and see what he/she
thinks. They will probably order imaging studies, X ray first then MRI. |

Background: 去年因为各种原因，麦地有点萧条，作为申请人不见好贴心里不免焦虑。
就在此环境中，几位既往study partner组了个pathology iv group。宗旨：此群不练
习iv，只用于定期交流各pg面试情况。
Material and Method: skype group, 不定期组会。
Result: 小组共15名成员，8名match path，4名match IM。
Conclusion: 虽然当年麦地求助无门，却发现4～7年前各位前辈热心的面经分享，受益
无穷，给面试增添不少信心。遂鼓动小组全体成员，独乐乐不如众乐乐，为2015申请
path童鞋鼓鼓气。

发帖数: 79 | 49 看你的家庭医生好不好了，一般家庭医生就可以解决。会首先给你照个x-ray， 看看有
没骨折，然后做几个检查,例如straight leg exam, 如果x-ray neg. straight leg
exam positive, you also have a eliciting event, you probably have acute 腰椎
间盘突出。睡睡硬板床，1-2wk 后应该会有好转。急性期找chiropractor没有用的，如
果疼的受不了，打个封闭，能缓解疼痛。如果是慢性的，找chiropractor慢慢拿捏。
如果疼的是在受不了，而且是慢性的，多年，影响生活质量，那就该找orthopedic，
做手术。但是手术有风险。不到最后，一般不做手术。 |
