Initial Reaction
The payroll survey shows a net gain of 162,000 jobs vs. an expectation of
230,000 jobs. This broke a six-month string of +200,000 jobs.
Digging into the details, things look far worse.
The household survey shows a gain in employment of only 16,000. This is the
fourth month in the last five that the household survey was substantially
weaker than the headline number.

survey but a poor household survey has been replaced by weakness all around.

Today's job report (for June) once again showed a huge divergence between
the household survey and the establishment survey.
Household survey employment fell by 56,000 while the establishment survey
shows a gain of 233,000 jobs. The labor force declined by 432,000 and that
explains the drop in the unemployment rate to 5.3% from 5.5%.

no doubt because its prior numbers simply were grossly inaccurate.
Indeed, I stopped commenting on ADP numbers because I thought they were
absurd.

The market disappointment over a rate hike was fueled by overall weak
economic figures, particularly after the first quarter GDP revision showed
that the economic growth shrunk by 0.7% in the first three months of the
year. The uptick in inflation was therefore not enough, as it won't be
