，不清楚是说midwest公司的必经之地喃，还是说公司到midwest招人的必经之地。当然
我对第二种猜测是从不曾怀疑的。我主要是想到地方的问题。不清楚会对ROSS有多大的
影响。好的学校其实很多，比如达特茅斯，但是人们也会埋怨它的地址位置不好。NYU
排名可能不如ROSS，那因为地点的因素，是否在就业问题上也会打个平手，甚至更好？
这完全是自己选择的吧，你想到west coast，找工作就focus在从west coast过去招人
的公司身上就好了。Ross在湾区的校友阵容很强大的。如果想了解，可以去参加每年学
校组织的West Coast Forum。不过那要等到明年10月了，今年的已经过了。 |

traffic there is heavy but I found it is fun to drive in LA. The trick is
that you need a good sense of speed and quick in reaction. I went to there a
few times without GPS by myself and I went to everywhere without any
problems with merging or existing the highways. But traffic jam is a pain in
the ass.
Driving on LA highway is like a bird flying through a forest while drive in

always stable and can only give you like 3~5% profit including mortage and
taxes every year. Also, you need to risk of the capital loss especially for
the house or condo around university which is located at pretty bad high
school district even at college down at midwest area like Texas or Michigan.

问他本地人为啥不住家，他说家里好像7，8口孩子太吵，没法学习
本科修了6年多，硕士拖了4年，后来去本地it公司当码农了
还有从midwest小镇考来的白女，后来转到腾校博士学位没拿到
无业，教英语为生，年收入不到3万（因为4K快钱一门课不让多带）
这混的比一年花7，8万美子到处旅游的小刘差太远了
还有的工人阶级白人小孩稍微好一点，技术不错，但是秃顶大肚子
做人EQ有点差，最后去了游戏公司当码农；看那样也不像是经理的材料
学校里那几个老美教授，好像基本都是犹太人，那教育抓得比老中还紧，数学学的比老
中还溜
说是美国梦，其实老美掉到中下阶层的也很多；新移民的上层，教育水平完全碾压他们
美国大城市也不便宜啊，房子动辄百万美元，房租一个月都好几千，普通年轻人一般也
就几万的收入，生活负担也很重
基本上还是拼教育和家教
出身不行的，好高骛远，家长也傻逼给不了什么指导；年轻时凭着青春或许还能混口饭
吃，25之后一路下坡
但他们有个好处，大城市呆不下去，可以回midwest小镇老家生活 |

我有一辆2003年的三菱eclipse，V6的。三年前买来8.2万mile现在开到9.8w，今天去做
了9万-10万mile间的大保养，换了一堆东西。今天时间不够，就没有换timing belt，
修车铺老板说timing belt也老化了，还可以开，但是踏油门不要过猛，注意一些。
我的车transmission有点噪音（据修车铺的老板说，三菱的车常出这种问题，但不影响
安全），老公不喜欢我的车说U turn的时候没法一次转过，加上有噪音的问题，一直想
叫我卖掉。
财务和通勤
我在南加LA附近，每周有一两次要开个60-80 mile的高速，其他local的路一周大概有
个50 mile不到。家里还有一辆极破的dfbb，老公平时上下班开开，出点远门主要还靠
我这辆车。
我们暂时没有财力买新车，顶多把这辆卖掉买个新一点的二手。老公说想买个8k以内大
概6-7万mile上下的。
留的原因：
1.1 我感情上比较舍不得，从Midwest一直陪着我经过挺多事情，样子也挺好看，红色
两门的伪跑车，配置比较高，内部几任车主一直都keep得挺新挺整洁的。

喜欢看起来运动一点，不要太像菜车，首先排除了日车，美车几个牌子外观内饰都不喜
欢，德车预算不够，看来一大圈，选中了2015 Hyundai sonata 2.0T, 试驾了，看了真
车和配置，都非常满意，dealer的报价都是贴在网上的，最好的就大概从 $6000 off
MSRP（$29000）, OTD 大约$25000多。email 问了周边所有的dealer, 不谈价格，都还
挺热情，总要你过来试驾啥的，一谈价格，就说折扣都在网上写的，几乎没有任何空间
讲价，似乎他们都是串通好的，本人位置midwest, 这里的dealer个个闲的啊，不知道
大家的意见如何，其实他们只要再给我降个1000，我肯定从了，现在的矛盾是，这个车
不一定买，手里的车还能开，买车不是图个开心吗，个个牛逼哄哄的（虽然看起来态度
好），总之有点不爽。dealer就是应该被淘汰的职业，喝个咖啡，发个邮件，带人试个
驾。太轻松了。各位的看法是，我到底是等等到下半年，是不是会有更好的折扣呢？ |

区不同性质的学校/college差别可以很大，就像码工有在FLG挣30w一年的，也有在
midwest小公司挣6w一年的。有本事的大可不必为自己挣6w一年不满，也跳到FLG去就是
了。没这本事或者没这aspiration也没啥，midwest 6w一年也过的蛮好。
当然挣高工资的in general压力也要大一些。你LD的offer在医学院，teaching的压力
至少就不太大，teaching load也不会重，而且如果教的都是premed的undergrad，或者
医学院的学生，至少不会很糟心。 |

。Trump进来这个应该很容易完成。
我昨天在想Trump怎么兑现给midwest产业工人的承诺，结论就是只有搞基建，才能提高
midwest的就业水平。制造业确实是扯淡。不过搞基建这样最少可以耗过8年吧，反正美
国确实也是缺那些基建的。
我估计funding的影响一个是NIH，还有一个就是DARPA的各种大项目。SRI，Raytheon那
几个公司大概要倒霉。
对NSF的影响多半是砍掉一些针对underrepresented group的funding，那个跟我们本来
也就没什么关系。
我希望医保便宜一点我们的overhead可以低一点，2017年雇一个postdoc的医保都涨到$
16,000了，Obamacare再下去钱就太不值钱了。 |

还有northwestern，工程不算很厉害，但是土木和机械都还行，加上其他学科算是综合
小牛。而且读工程还可以兼修一些商科的课程。跟芝加哥大学同档次的学校。Midwest

消息挺多的。
招了不少最近都是美国名校的 CS 的本科和 master. 整体pacakge比今年夏天入职的高
一截。而且 F 家的通过率明显提高。
package 里的 base 还和今年夏天入职的fresh 学生差不多。但是 sign on + stock
的总额，增加了5W或者更多。看工资走向还是要看 fresh BS、MS 的价位。
湾区公司年终发 bonus 的比较多。所以现在跳槽的老手比较少。来面试的很多都是学
生。似乎各家HR 的底气都很足，没有抠门的迹象。另外几家小公司现在出手很足，F
家扩招的迹象太明显。工资看涨是肯定的。
哎 这么涨下去 存款真的不值钱了啊

，因为家庭原因再找DC metro area 工作。
电话面试了一个在Maryland的中等规模biotech（非药厂）公司，背景十分match，面试
也很顺利， HR 说我是top candidate，问我想要的salary range， 我说85K-90K，
HR 说超过他们的范围了， 说我现在的工资（少于80K）在他们的范围之内。 我说我在
midwest， 消费非常非常低 BLA BLA，HR 说要跟Manager讨论一下，如果不能达到我的
要求就不浪费我的时间进行下一轮面试了。。。。
我面试前做了研究，因为此公司总部在boston， 所以glassdoor 和H1BDATA 都找不到
同样title的薪水，85K-90K是我自己按照别的职位location估算的。而且看到有人在
glassdoor上抱怨说工资低。
我就想问一下大家，
1. 我报出的范围是否合理，因为之后可能还有别的职位的面试，不想因此断送后面

Home prices in the just-concluded first quarter fell nationwide, but homes
in the West had a near double-dip, according to a report Thursday from Clear
Capital Inc. of Truckee.

能check in吗？
- 我的Carseat可以放stroller上用。 所以我是带stroller + carseat呢？还是只带
stroller base + carseat? 带stroller就是想孩子坐的舒服点，但是孩子他爸认为东
西带太多了，麻烦。 |
