中小公司的问题就是太多manager不懂技术 又猛push进度
我个人的manager还不错;
但是有不少manager不懂技术 还一个劲的push。
手下辛辛苦苦 还没什么功劳 因为manager乱指挥 还不appriciate。
不知道google这级别的公司会不会好点。

还是不容易呀,一旦变MANAGER,每天要开好多会,基本久不会HANDS ON了,也不太可
能再回ENINGEER了。再美国MANAGER这个LADDER不好走,语音,文化和人脉都没有。比
较现实的是再本身周围都有国人的团队里,争取做MANAGER并领导国人,慢慢占领公司
的某一块业务,但是单打独斗很难,周围都烙印和老美,怎么争取做MANAGER呀?

hr周一跟我报了个数字,感觉太低,就说希望base加10k,hr说和manager商量,结果今
天又发邮件说要我和manager schedule一个talk。想问问这种情况常见吗?这个talk就
是manager解释为什么加不了么?当时和这个manager面的不是很爽,有点虚他。是不是
我neogotiate的方法不对,不应该要求加base?我感觉加10k好像也不算过分吧,加不
了就不加呗,搞这么正式。。

公司大头亲自打电话来了,热切邀请加入。讲了一大推好话,让我收回决定。但工资不
变。
从最近据的这个offer来看,HR自己定下很低的salary,根本不理当初hiring manager
定下的bottom line (比HR给的多10k).hiring manager和当时另外三个interview
officers都很客气,都希望我能去,而且我也表态了希望加入他们。HR没有参与面试。
定下这么一个offer,而且把一些应该有的benefit都给取消了.
所以不理解这个HR到底是听hiring manager的,还是翻过来的。
现在想给hiring manager和另外几个人发个email.谢谢他们的时间和面试,但遗憾
compensation 没有达到当时定下的bottom line,希望以后能有机会继续合作。

你可以考虑一下program manager这个职位啊。只要头脑
清晰,organized就可以尝试。不是所有的公司的program manager都是manager头衔。

ICC过来干了4年,然后SJSU念了一个学位,但是与此同时简历上还写在同一时间给EBAY
FT工作??反正肯定是造假了没说的了。然后来我前雇主那,足足熬满四年才升级,
然后又很快升为了MANAGER。
此人虽然不直接管我,但是毕竟也是组里仅剩的俩MANAGER之一,经常越过另一个
MANAGER找别人给他干活。他只有在找你干活时候会回复你的邮件,其他时候无论给他
发什么统统不回复。据说和手底下的人每半年1:1一次,给老中REVIEW写差评导致老中
做了好几年项目无法升级。催活时候要求DEADLINE精确到小时。不过感觉他手底下没有
提拔过什么人,往上虽然舔的很努力但是效果不太行,REORG之后另一个MANAGER的人际
链条一形成,他最近颇有些光杆司令的味道。

楼主:会搞政治的才能当好manager, 这位从国内过来的显然很会,招烙印也是为了搞
政治。要多鼓励国内会搞政治的来当manager, 这边的华人也不要看不起国内来的,总
比从印度空降的烙印manager 好
国内来的manager: 还是多团结国人,不要互相看不起,不要害自己人,多提拔自己人
,因为大敌是烙印。

微软其实还是不错的公司。但是管理不行。呆了很长时间的manager技术不行就只知道
整人,手里就那么一点权力就找不到北了。我当出离开真是很寒心。本来想换组,只给

Fresh PhD,毕业后一直在等OPT。原定3月初入职,但是OPT一直没下来所以入职时间推
迟了。所以今天问manager能不能尽管没有入职但赶在4月1号截止日期前提交H1B申请,
因为我有很多同学都是这样干的,入职前就申请,这样可以早拿到h1b或者将来OPT内多
一次申请机会。但是manager说现在已经3月了时间有点紧,而且h1b申请人多需要抽签
,让我今年别申h1b了,入职后直接申请O1。O1没有deadline,也没有名额限制,而且
有利于将来申请EB-1B(因为材料完全一样)。不知为什么居然不想帮我申请h1b,里面
有没有猫腻儿啊?难道每个公司也有配额,把省下来的给别人?manager是个印度人,
但是从面试到onsite到现在对我一直挺好的。组里除了manager没有别的印度人。会不
会是我想多了?

有的就是熬年头熬到了,业务其实也还凑合,当Manager的总不能是弱智吧?
但是有种说不出来的别扭,觉得领导能力还是不强,比如:
不敢管手下的老印,被老印欺负;
手下老印不干活或是天天出错,升职却快;title很高,做的事儿很弱智,老印也高兴
,懒得换组或是跳槽;出事儿了就找中国人去修;
事必躬亲,什么事儿问来问去烦死了;
同样的国男manager,要么很大度,要么很push但自己也跟着冲,身先士卒那种。
也经历过各国其他的男manager,有的烙印非常垃圾,但大多数男manager都还行;

那我也说说我见到的manager的情况。有些不是我本人的manager.
1) 东欧白人,比较差,无论技术还是人品
2)女烙印,感觉对人还不错,没在她手下做过review所以不知道到底如何
3) 美国白人,看起来很nice,但升职只升白人。
4) 中国人,非常差。是我遇到的所有manager里最差的,push, 东西要做不出来让手下
不要吃饭睡觉了,说公司不养闲人。用中文骂手下中国人,给烙印升职。赶走了组里好几
个中国人。
5)美国白人,人很Nice,对手下很好。review也不错。
6)烙印男,有些micro management, 其他不知道。

是谁,其实大家都知道是谁,她不说也能查出来,只是他们一味袒护,连慌都撒不下去
了,但是,如果没有外部力量,比如EEOC,起到一点震慑作用,你就能看出他们是多卑
鄙多明目张胆欺负人!当初我劝HR不要把自己掺合在里面,当她叫嚣给我关禁闭如果
不从就解雇时,我劝过她三思,她嚣张地说去找你自己的律师问问,我敢不敢发这邮件
!我最讨厌暗地里使坏的,所以一直揪着那个management是谁不放,同时坚持只有这个
人才能作为我这个项目的直接领导,必须回答我所有问题,提供指导,对进展负责。HR
撑了一个礼拜,就是不说,我说那好啊,我要开始工作,你不给我在Jira里建issue,
我怎么log time,怎么填timesheet?快建!中间她还想逼我把问题发给她,她再转发
给秘名的management,有了解答再由她转给我, 大家见过developer以这种方式干活和

注,足以说明问题的普遍性.华人在美打工,哪个没有一部血泪史?
我想说的是不要对公司高层的介入报太大期望.他们是来解决问题的,并且是站在公司的
立场解决问题,不是判断是非的.说白了就是穷尽一切办法证明公司没有错.所以VP和你
谈话的重点只有倆个:
1.替manager和HR解释,开脱.
2.探你的虚实,看公司在哪里站不住脚,需要补强.
现在你已经把事情投诉到公司以外的机构了,所以不要期望公司会有任何公平可言.即使
公司上层完全清楚那个manager和HR是王八蛋,现在也会无条件地站在他们那边,先把事
情摆平.对他们的处理,是以后的事.如果承认你是对的,不就承认了公司有歧视,有报复,
公司错了?再有,如果那个manager错了,那他的boss是不是也有责任?至少是用人不当.在
这个时候,公司会上下团结一致和你战斗.所以不要对公司抱任何幻想.开除manager和HR
是公司最后的选项,只有在法律和舆论上完全站不住脚,为了止血,停损,才会不得以为之

最近找工作。面试Amazon SDE2失败了,但说feedback positive 降级成SDE1。
HR把我分到了一个组。经过内部打探一下,那个烙印manager底下都是烙印manager,几
个烙印manager底下都是烙印。我虚了。。
我应该不会接这个组了,来板上问问有没有在Amazon的manager手底下有SDE1的hc。感
觉跟着同胞干有干劲。
我知道现在亚麻SDE1没有什么hc。。

和G家recruiter谈了on-site的准备。manager有5轮面试,只包含一轮coding,说是他
们知道manager的coding面试,有一点rusty是expected。
同时有和L的recruiter沟通,说manager的code是high level,只要brush up on your
coding skills but not stress it.
