听过不止他一次seminar，跟他也在会议上聊过.
对他印象非常不好，诚然他人很聪明，很会做seminar，但是很多他的研究就是看起来
非常fancy的idea，支持的数据非常weak...他在我们这做讲座data就被一个大牛质疑过
，最后以他巧妙的四两拨千斤的以一堆问题回答了一个他回答不了的问题结束...
他做的这个亚领域很多数据重复性非常差，虽然很多生物实验的数据都会有误差，但是
线虫longevity和代谢很多有名landmark paper数据都非常没有重复性，我原来楼上实
验室就有2篇CNS发在这个领域..，在我们联合组会被修理的体无完肤...但是，照样发
CNS.
现在线虫领域就是几个大牛把持话语权，灌水吃肉，剩下人喝汤都困难，国内做线虫的
经费很难拿到，几乎做的好一点的都去忽悠老鼠的经费去了...实话说很多大牛的文章
质量非常差..完全就是贩卖概念...
我劝你除非能进那几个学霸实验室，否则离线虫领域远一点... |

诚然过去20年 线虫的一些数据比mammalian 的快。现在除了几个大牛实验室，其他的
多跟在mamallian屁股后面。 线虫单作神经那块还有意义，搞代谢搞毛啊！ who care

同意。。这个工作很重要无疑，但是诺奖的话有点夸张
这个好比RNAi领域，最早发现机制的fire/mello得奖没问题（guo su不说了），但是第
一个拿RNAi做出全基因组敲除的Ahringer/Hyaman等贡献也十分巨大（尤其前者，全世
界的线虫组都要用她家的RNAi库），但是想得诺奖是然并卵的。
shi yigong的工作很重要，但是原创性质未必够诺奖标准...
别忘了发现leptin的哥们，davis julius的味觉受体，microRNA的ambros/Ruvkun,分子
伴侣的ullrich几个人，核受体的pierre chambon..甚至longevity的kenyan C
这些才是真正诺奖的预备役，shi yigong的工作跟上面几个差的还比较多... |

SCHOOL的数学 SCIENCE什么的 那就是相当不错了 （我不喜欢教小学 因为美国小学什
么科目都教 做LESSON PLAN能累S 而且一天到晚对着同一班的学生）
工资跟大ACCOUNTING FIRM差不多 然后还几个月假期
干满20年以后还能拿LONGEVITY INCREMENT
我觉得尤其是对女性来说是一份很好的职业
至于我 如果现在的职位不能再往上爬的话 只能转行了
所以大家努力努力吧 还是有盼头的 |

公立学校的工资系统我以前分析过了。说实话，对我们这些有青春优势，又有学历和能
力的年轻教师来说，真的不公平。一个没有MASTER DEGREE的教师都可以比我多赚2万，
因为教龄也高，而他不一定比我教得好--因为资历 他总是能要到好教的班级。
有时候一个学校里面的老资格教师拿到的工资比校长还要高。在比较差或者中等的校区
，往往有许多混日子的老师，因为教学压力不重，而且对学生的期望值也不高。比如我
们校区，要不是NCLB法案，好多老师都不会打算去进修念MASTER。
老师混日子 礼拜五放DVD不教书 学生自然不会努力到哪儿去。 |

term career? It's not like they are earning starggering amount of money like
a successful trader or lawyer. My money is a technology-oriented job is
still better, as long as it does involve a quite bit of client and college
interaction.
That's why medicine is such an awesome job. It's based on knowledge and
skill, yet communication is essential for day-to-day practice. |
