those, including "Peking." You can find many maps in the internet, of
Kaohsiung. Satellite, GPS, you name it. Here is one.

adulthood. You asked for impression. But I will give you my OPINION. Taipei
takes all the tax money away from other cities. We (people other than Taipei
residents) DEMAND redistribution of wealth--by which I mean tax dollars.

(1) Why do Taipei kids leave for school at 6 am, even when Dad is driving
him to school? I grew up in City of Kaohsiung and primary school did not
open the door until possibly 7 am at the earliest. Because teachers would
not arrive until 7:30 am(?)
(2) I checked 台東泰源國小 in the web. It is located in the county, not city
of Taitung. 台東縣 whose web site, www.tyes.ttct.edu.tw/, indicates that it
was estavlished during the (Japanese) colonial time "1929年成立為嘎嘮吧灣公
學校."

same. I use "was" before I left two decades ago.

For God's sake, it is bread. I was poor, so I seldom ate out while in Taiwan
. When I did, I did not eat rice, because there was plenty at home.

(1) Taiwan's military is adamently opposed to ANY civilian flight across the
Taiwan strait. I don't know if there is merit to that argument, but my
impression is US seems to support the position, at least implicitly. I am
unaware of the definition. Shanghai to Taipei may be not across the strait
but to Kaohsiung is. And Xiamen/Amoy to any point in Taiwan definitely is.

spend all your time --and money--in Taipei." I came from City of Kaohsiung.
But your third posting stated, "大部分时间会在实验室游荡
晚上估计才自由行." I guess you are not a tourist and that your laboratory is
somewhere around Taipei. So, you can not help but stay there.
By the way, City of Taipei is also hot in summer, as the city is basically a
basin, surrounded by hills which prevent see breeze from coming in. |

springs. Most, if not all, I have not heard of. I lived in City of
Kaohsiung and was hardly know of presence of a British consulate. I will
double check, by going to a book store in Boston.
To MJMJMJ: 台鐵 Taiwan Railway Administration, which is distinct (i.e.,
different) from Taiwan High Speed Railway, is pretty food. Punctuality is
more than 90%, slightly better than Amtrak in US. I will double check the
data also.

, Massachusetts.
When you visit Kaohsiung, look into the Love River. It is rumored that
former mayor Frank Hsieh (who lost to Ma Ying-jeou in March 2008
presidential election) cured it. Tell me if it is clean, and how many feet
you can see into the river in a sunny day.

Kaohsiung. During the Chen presidency, blues used that to attack the
government. However, the Ma administration can not buck the trend, either.
KMT attacks only expose their hypocriticism.

Taiwan).

Kaohsiung, but it was not well developed back then.) The government and

I assume the term refers to the square by the temple.
In fact, I lived close to the 三鳳宮 mentioned above. What is held there is
called 廟會? I have to admit I did not watch even once.
