of sound).
(a) Upon reading your explanation (attached at the bottom), I suspected the
term was local (in your area, or County of Taipei--at most Northern Taiwan).
I have no recollection of peddlers, in City of Kaohsiung where I was born
and grew up, selling ice cream. Popsicles, yes (up to ~ 1970 when mass
production by corporations, with popsicles packed in slender plastic tubes,
displaced them). We did not call peddlers |

(a) the surname de Jong is Dutch meaning ‘the young’, for the younger of
two bearers of the same name--usually a son. The English and German
counterparts are Young and Jung, respectively.
