是美国颇有名气的儿童读物作家Jeanette Eaton。看来这书在美国读者不少–儿子拿到
的这本是1970年第十四次印刷。儿子读了书，写进读书日志里。老师在日志的Gandhi一
词旁边批：「One of my favorites!」
几年前看过得奥斯卡奖的电影《甘地》。那时很受震撼，连看两遍。后来跟一个从印度
来的年轻人聊，问这部英国人编剧、导演、主演的电影是否印度味够浓。年轻人说电影
很真实。但也说现在的印度人对甘地的看法有分歧。甘地是地道的苦行僧，对西方式的
物质现代化不感兴趣。当代印度GDP增速直追中国，看来是对甘地这一套不怎么以为然

门（Brahmin/Brahmana），祭司贵族；刹帝利（kshatriya），雅利安人军事贵族包括

社会中的普通劳动者，也就是雅利安人的中下阶层，包括农民、手工业者和商人；首陀

critical time in Indian history, and helped many in India. Can he do better?
Sure. There is no need to idolize Gandhi, but that didn't take away the
fact that non-violent struggle became a viable political option largely due
to him. That is something. |

his place in history, although I doubt that. I do, however, commend him for
his extensive research to reveal Gandhi the human, not Gandhi the Saint.

电影似乎没有想像得好，不过好在他的一生还算大有可为，印度到底也算是大国（国土
大人口多），虽然时代背景嫌单薄但影片到底比缅甸小国的the lady要厚重言之有物。
摄影不错，空镜头虽谈不上一草一木总关情，总还是拍出了印度的情境。印象最深应该
是调动大量群演，可不是电脑合成的那么缺乏真实度与质感。Gandhi在中国历史书上讲
得比较简单，电影还原得比较立体，不过身为一个中国人感觉他的行为更象joke，因为
我深知在我们这边根本行不通，也说明，西方再不好到底还算讲究法制民权的文明国家
，要面子有底线有credit。面对它，他赢了。最后却死在了自己人手里——还不是本国
的异教徒穆斯林，而是同样信奉印度教的人手中，这还不够讽刺吗？！Ben Kingsley表
演堪赞，这个有着一对招风耳的小个子目光坚定，坚忍又有爆发力。影片开始部分有年
纪轻轻的Daniel Day Lewis惊鸿一瞥。 |
