可能也难争取到TA，RA只有工资，不免学费。不过对他家professor做的东西还比较感
兴趣。
如果没有funding，自费最多能读完master，如果只有master学位，直接找工作是否比
较难？如果以这个master做跳板再申请其他学校PHD是否可行？ |

目标是以后申请金融的PHD， 国内本硕都是金融，但这边竞争太激烈了，加上种种原因
，目前只能去UMKC读economics MA, 有没有人在这个学校读啊，是不是非常非常烂啊？
打算用这个当跳板转校，然后实现读金融PHD的梦想，这个方案可行么？如果在读期间
全拿A有没有可能申请到top50的金融PHD？

Wong) at UCLA has a 2011 coauthored book on divergence. However, in

Ray Huang (Wanli 15th nian) passed away many years ago. His macrohistory
actually borrowed from macroeconomics.

, know very limited about China, their research are Europe oriented and
actually could not explain the emergence of industralization.
Those so called western scholars in Chinese history, also know very limited
about China. For example, that famous Fei ZhenQing (J. Fairbank) could not

之前在这里看过有人推荐Ivan Pang的那本，
本人觉得不错，可是系里有一些politics的问题不想用他的书，
还有其他的浅显易懂的教材么？
不可以用principle那些书，必须是这个title的，
我看了很多教材都是要求一定的数学甚至regression.

(1) Good reference book to cover all the economics areas (micro, macro, and
modern, etc.). Probably, it needs the other book to cover modern finance
theory, right?
(2) Good reference book to understand company finance, how to read/
understand company finance report, etc.

是applied econometrics方向的东西。
在linkedlin, indeed上面看了两个月了，很多工作是偏统计的，都只要求BA学位加3-5
年经验，做的工作也只是些data的工作，这类工作我感觉过去了就是数据工，如果从了
很浪费自己在graduate school学到的这些东西。不过估计人家也不想要我呢，公司就
想要个有工作经验的统计本科/master。
想请问一下版上大牛们，with Economics PhD，在industry都能做些什么工作呢？怎么
定位自己才好呢？Entry level的可能over qualified了，senior的又要工作经验，好
不尴尬。 |

的杂志上已经有文章了。文章可以是合作的。
原因是国内的经济学农业经济学博士没有美国这边的严格的基础理论和专业课的培训，
统计和计量更是差一大截。还有就是国内的博士英文写作水平几乎等于0，这个在对写
作要求比较高的应用经济学领域是硬伤。 |

世界上最难的数学竞赛-普特南数学竞赛(读读挺有意思的)
中国人喜欢中学生竞赛，啥数学竞赛、物理竞赛、化学竞赛。在北美，竞赛也有，受重
视的却不多。William Lowell Putnam 数学竞赛（Mathematics Competition)是比较少
有受重视的。其难度特大，不是数学天才，不要去试，要不然对自己打击太大，如果是
，可以确立自我。笨人试图翻译Putnam为“普特难数学竞赛”（原因读后自明）。普特
难是哈佛大学毕业生。他鼓吹大学生竞赛。1927年他的妻子出钱建立普特难竞赛，最早
是英语竞赛，以后才有数学竞赛。普特难数学竞赛算是从1938年正式开始，由美国数学
会主持。这个竞赛优胜者得到的不在于金钱（有，但不多，特别是和它的难度比起来，
更不算啥），而在于荣誉。普特难数学竞赛是各大学选拔学生参加。目前是考12道数学
题目，每题10分，共120分。 |

people. Pharmacoeconomics is a sub-area of health economics. It is
theoretical. I would suggest you do your own research and make sure you are
interested. At least, you should know the basic concepts of cost-benefit
analysis, cost-utility analysis and cost-effective analysis. |

One sticking point is that I need someone with good C++ skills as the job
involves a fairly large-scale C++ Monte Carlo (and R) and I’m having
trouble finding candidates with significant C++ experience. The other main
