就我自己，今天从早到晚给我打电话的、短信的、站内信的，我数了数，就已经有5对
要结婚的了，这还只是我自己直接认识的，这5对里，其中有4对是因为要解决绿卡问题
而需要尽快结婚的；另外还有我认识的、但是今天没有和我联系的、我肯定他们也在考
虑结婚解决绿卡问题的，还有2-3对。大概算了算，在美华人同志伴侣，绝大部分（是
的，绝大部分），在今天以前，都因为这个DOMA而丧失了靠婚姻办绿卡的权利。 |

What happens next is a good question. Usually the losing party would appeal
the decisions to the U.S. Court of Appeas for the Circuit which includes
Massachusetts; but we don't know exactly what the feds will do since the
Obama administration pretty much recognizes that DOMA is unconstitutional. I
suspect they will appeal. If they don't, the decision only will be binding
on federal matters within Massachusetts. |

As I understand it, these decisions apply only to Massachusetts. However, if
they're appealed and the circuit court upholds them, that ruling will apply
to the entire circuit. If the US Supreme Court also upholds, it will apply
to the whole country and Part 3 of DOMA will be history. Meanwhile, other
courts will consider Tauro's rulings in future decisions. F |

3。假如对方上诉的话，从上诉到最终判决，需要几年的时间？

1。每个州可以有权利选择不承认在其它州注册的同性婚姻。
2。联邦政府只认可一夫一妻，不认可在州内注册的同性婚姻。
PROP8（Proposition 8）是2008年总统大选的时候，印在加州的大选选票上的一个公投
提案，那张选票上当时印了十几个提案，包括另外一个帖子里提到的关于母鸡的居住空
间的提案。因为这个提案的编号是第8号，所以俗称第8提案。
2008年6月，加州高法曾经裁定加州同性结婚合法，使得加州的同性恋伴侣们蜂拥成婚
，加州保守派们于是发起了一个公投提案，印在同年11月举行的总统大选选票上，提案
的内容是：婚姻应该是在一男一女之间。选项是YES/NO，选择YES表示反对同性婚姻。
结果此提案以微弱优势通过，于2008年11月结束了加州仅为期5个月的同性婚姻合法化
的历史。但是，此提案是没有回溯性的，所以，在那5个月内结婚的同性伴侣们的婚姻
仍然有合法效应。 |

文章的意思是，判决14天之内不会生效，14天后，只要OBAMA政府一天不APPEAL，就一
天马上有效。当然OBAMA政府几乎肯定是要APPEAL，而且移民的过程很长，从14天到

get passed then, it won't pass now.
the dems have had two years to repeal DOMA section 3 and what did they do?
