There is no free lunch I am afraid. You have couple of options.
1) Get free labor to work, but, you run the risk of copyright issue since
you don't have the copyright. They can sue you anytime since it is their
work.
2) Spend some decent god damn money and get it done right
3) If you don't have the money, well, you do it yourself. That's what I will
do.
So, either 2) or 3) is good, IMHO.
This is what has caused Mitbbs.com in trouble. This bbs has been forcing me
to violate copyright.
Well, I am too rich to be caught for that. In order words, I have too much
money, that I am an easy target. Mitbbs and its owner are desperados who do
not care. But I do.
Besides, I do not wish to go to jail (for violating copyright).

级人才奖励性质项目），2个国家级横向合作项目负责人，得过一些市级奖励，有14个
国内专利(1项授权，其他pending），28篇论文，一作14篇，4篇通讯作者，7篇英文论
文（impact factor 2-4分），在美国的研究暂时还没有相关paper；citation 不到60
而且都没有牛杂志引用；给国内某专业杂志连续审稿10年。现在美Top 5的名校任RA。
claim 3项：contribution，authorship和judge，有律师，认为case不strong，所以没
有pp，苦等了6个月，结果收到RFE。承认authorship和judge，但是认为contribution

你的问题只关于版权，那我就只告诉你版权(虽然我觉得你同样要担心专利问题）
general rule：copyright of a work prepared by an employee within the scope
of his or her employment belongs to the hiring party
具体什么叫within the scope of employment，三言两语和你说不太清，但是听你的说
法与工作还是挺有关系，所以很难能被认为out of the scope，除非你有written
agreement with employer that the employee will retain copyright，以你H1B的身
份，恐怕很难做这个Bargain
其次，还要看你和雇主的雇佣合同，有些合同规定所有IP都属于employer，那么你就更
难自己独立获得IP了。
