时候往往是和fellow或是resident打交道。其他在社区医院工作的朋友可以谈谈如何和
attending打交道。
首先尽量和他们成为朋友，这样你和他们consult的时候，即便有点差错他们也会原谅
你的。记得我以前和大家讲过一个脾气很坏的hem/onc fellow曾经在电话里和我大吼，
后来我在他们科轮科，我们彼此成为了朋友,在找他时脾气就变得好多了。我有时还会
找他curbside consultations。
consult前一定要想好为啥要consult?大家最烦的一句话就是my attending want me to
consult.他们常会反问你what you want me to do?当然有的时候事实就是这样，但你
最好还是要想些办法，让他们听起来你的consult make sense.实在没有办法，我会和
他们直接了当的讲清楚，他们也会理解你的苦衷。大不了被训斥几句。
consult前还要尽量做好准备工作，也就是基本的workup,比如AKI的患者，你在找 |

。我们的lactation consultant是医院推荐的，我问她保险包不包，她说要打电话问自
己的保险公司，现在越来越多的都包了，但是运作起来，是先付钱给她，然后她填表做
paper work，然后我们去找保险公司报销。
每个lactation consultant的理念都不一样，有的比较极端，有的相对温和一些。我们
的lactation consultant并不极端反对奶粉，有的就是绝对不让你喂奶粉的。
我问过我们的lactation consultant，她有20多年的经验，我们这边都找她，妈妈吃东
西会不会影响小孩，她的回答是不会。所以我可以随便吃，只要不喝酒，只要适量，可
乐咖啡白菜西兰花随便吃...我都傻了。所以你问lactation consultant关于内火的问
题，我怀疑lactation consultant都不知道内火是啥。

1。 这个Intern的准备工作作的不充分。在他打电话以前，他应该把该计算的数据
搞清楚，从而回答consultant的问题，做到有问必答。
2。这个consultant不应该说：“this is not a reason for calling consult,
usually the reasons might be”。原因是consultant不知道什么时候intern会有问题，consultant应该在conference以后给intern回电话或者赶去见intern. Conference is not the reason for denying the intern's phone call because the intern does not know the consultant's schedule.

最近有公司邀请我给他们提供consulting 服务。我在生物医学方向，问了一些教授，
得到的rate大致是如下：
如果是hourly的，一般是$300-$500一个hour，Assistant Professor在300左右，Full
Professor 在$500左右。
如果是按天给的，一般一天是$1000-$2000，Assistant Professor在$1000左右，Full
Professor 在$2000左右。
如果是长途国际旅行，公司提供商务舱机票。但也有教授说他们就算长途（回中国），
公司也只付经济舱机票。
另外travel day，就说在路上的时间付不付consulting fee有点出入。有些教授travel

发帖数: 42 | 24 看到版上越来越多的关于ICC的帖子，终于觉得忍不住要说两句。以免越来越多不了解
情况的新来同学们受到误导。
近来版上讨论ICC的帖子不少，可是很多帖子里概念有误，把所有的consulting
company都说成了是ICC，还有把ICC说成是Information consulting company，甚至有
说Accenture是ICC。我觉得大家有必要搞清楚正规的consulting company和我们要远离
的ICC之间的区别。
其实我们所要小心的ICC是Indian Consulting Company，是那些主要帮人搞定身份办h1
的公司，这些公司主要从印度搬大量的人来，并不一定有活干，但能通过合法或不合法
的途径帮他们搞定身份。这些公司也是去年h1申请人数一下增多的罪魁祸首。关于这些
ICC的危害性，大家可以考下古。
其余的consulting company，基本上应该都是正规的consulting company了。第一种是
是大型有名的consulting公司，如Accenture, Deloitte, IBM等，他们有非常正规的培
训系统，业务是帮助客户进行系统开 |

2. 名气较响
3. 能借作项目之名到处旅行, 费用由公司报销
缺点是:
1. 估计公司会一直让我做我已经熟悉的一块, 而我很渴望做其他方面的东西, 提高我
职业上的竞争力
2. 虽然是大consulting 公司, 但或许也会有拿不到项目的时候, 那时估计日子不会好
过.
原来的客户, manufacturing company
优点: 1. 那里的经理在知道我经验不足的情况下, 仍然答应让我做我想做的那块东西

一个consulting公司，面试得时候明确说associate consultant不sponsor，只有
senior software engineer sponsor，我申了senior software engineer，面试也是面
得职位，但是最后给下轮面试得时候，换成associate consultant这个职位了，知道估
计没戏，想问下这样得情况，见manager得时候该怎么处理？跟他们说能不能换成支持
sponsor得类似得职位么？ |

你说的我最近也听了一个podcast提到了这个。很多consulting工作都是在大公司里和
人家的team一起工作。这样的话，consulting body shop就有优势，他们可以经常和这
些大公司保持联系，然后有活儿的话，就包给自己的consultant来做。
我就是想，如果自己做点consulting的话，不通过consulting company的那种，貌似很
少有机会。即使有的话，比如说做个啥tomcat based的网站之类的，也没有太多的钱赚
，不合算的。
Anyway, 也许到consulting公司挂个名，可以业余接活儿，感觉。 |

鉴于最近有好几个人问我某公司的bonus算法，我冒着被在某公司干活的人喊打的危险
贡献一下内部消息。以下算法仅仅限于某公司某东部城市office某部门。不同部门的
salary和bonus structure差别很大。俺逃离某公司的时候还没到consultant，所以代
表了entry到有几年经验吧。
某公司的entry有3个entry level，experienced也有3个（consultant在往上还有好多
个level）。entry level的苦力charge客户$190-$360每小时，有经验的苦力charge$
260-$420每小时当然最后的invoice肯定不会全是hour×rate，会给一些discount。一
般拿到一个客户，组里面就会根据budget分配好谁谁干几百个，几十个小时等等。偶有
幸做过invoice，所以知道这个hourly rate和最后收钱的rate差别是比较小的。

Management consulting求职的第一步，就是弄清楚自己到底是否适合做这个职业。
Consulting一般需要许多的travel和与人打交道，处理的问题也往往是自己从来没接触
过的。这个时候你要问自己以下几个问题：
1． 我是否喜欢有挑战有新意的工作，可以从容面对压力
2． 我是否喜欢并擅长与人打交道，具备较好的语言能力，交流能力和亲和力
3． 我是否能够把一个模糊的命题有组织有结构地拆解成可以处理的小命题
4． 我是否喜欢并能够领导和配合团队工作
5． 我是否愿意牺牲我的私人生活来全心投入工作，至少在几年的时间内
如果这几条都满足的话，consulting会是一个很好的职业选择。

consulting firm to a first tier consulting firm.
Just working for a consulting firm will not guarantee you any good future
jobs...it largely depends on what you do there. Even Mck does a fair amount
of non-strategic operational projects.
Consulting is not a career for most of the consultants...it's merely a step
stone to a corporate job...however, it will get you on the fast track.

他们又没有的，想把我列成consultant。
第一次接触这个。有一些问题请教一下本版同修：
1. 薄厚，F1 OPT，能做consultant吗？
2. 对方其实想把我列成collaborator，自己薄厚老板不同意。那做consultant需要跟薄
厚老板说吗？需要跟学校说吗？对方跟我说，我是课余休息时间跟他们做consultant，
所以不用经过我现在薄厚老板，这个对吗？
3. 这个consultant是paid的吗？对方还没有提这个，如果不能做，当然我就算了。如果
能做，改善薄厚生活也不错，不过不知道怎么提，要多少？

对大家有帮助。A little disclaimer，我纯属是事后诸葛亮，以前没有看过如何
become a consultant的专业书籍，所说的都是根据自己的经验总结的。所以不知道和
书上说的一样不一样。不想误导大家. 也没有以偏概全的意思. Please take it with
a grain of salt. 另，抱歉我不会回答太personal 的问题。
关于专业。 专业对做consultant 没有决定性影响 (也许IT consulting 除外，我不大
清楚)。咨询公司看重的是你的个人能力。不管你的专业是什么，只要他要你做的东西
你能做好，就够了. 我知道学历史，政治，化学，生物，EE, 法律的consultant. 当然
最多的还是MBA. 我只是觉得大家不要把专业当绊脚石，真心实意地喜欢自己的专业，
是会得到尊重的。大家也别追问，我是学啥的啦。我完全理解大家想要找个reference
point 的心情，但是每个人都是自己的reference point. 一个和你一样背 |

份毕业，德州农工计算机硕士，简历投了很多，接了很多phone interview,但是没几个
sponsor h1-b的，眼看成毕业了OPT要开始了 我只能开始找这类的公司了。不知道前辈
