BEIJING — The investigation of the celebrity artist and social critic Ai
Weiwei on suspicion of “economic crimes” is in keeping with “the rule of
law” in China, a Chinese official said Thursday, defending Mr. Ai’s
detention in the face of growing condemnation by foreign nations and liberal
Chinese of the detention.

"《朝日新闻》4月3日的'外国救援队与日本'特辑中还报道，3月11日，中国通过联合国
机构对日表示有意派遣80至100人的救援队，并'已具备两、三小时内出发的态势。'
"但中国在日本接受外国援助的名单上排名4级，即使不与排在1级的美国比，接受顺序
也很低。外务省积极推动，也只把中国从4级提为3.5级。
"《朝日新闻》引述日本官员透露说，开放给外国救援队降落的青森县三泽机场是朝鲜
战争中的美军后方基地，现在仍属日美联合管理，对中国救援队军人队员降落三泽机场
日美有抵触。
"报道说，经菅直人政权协调，3月13日决定中国救援队飞抵日本自卫队岩手县花卷机场
进入灾区，但救援队限制在15人。中国官员当天向日本官员表示：'这次非常感谢。'
