program, on 7 May 1993 at the Musikhalle in Hamburg. He died in Lugano two
years later, in June, and was buried in the small cemetery in Pura, on the
hillside, with a view of the lake. Since the day of his funeral, there have

Lectures on Hyperbolic Geometry
我老板是这方面的专家, 给他老人家面子, 先介绍双曲几何方面的书.
作者是我老板在法国时候的同学. 据称这本书是所有双曲几何书里
少有的不怎么出错的之一. 但是这本书上的证明实在是太长了,每一章
证明一个大定理.
我将主要引用它的前言, 但有时写着就写开了, 应该不算侵犯版权吧...
"上世纪七, 八十年代, 双曲几何成为了数学中一个重要的研究对象.
对这个对象本身的和相关的研究取得了一系列惊人的成果, 也激发
了很多活跃课题: 只要看看W. P. Thurston在三维几何拓扑方面
的工作和双曲群理论就能体会到这一点.
(注: 双曲流形是截面曲率恒为-1的Riemann流形. )

这本书的主题是双曲流形的 "柔性" 和 "刚性" 之间的冲突. 第一个
根本的分歧是: 二维情形和三维以上的情形是截然不同的. 一个初等
的例子是Riemann映射定理和Liouville定理的对比.
