英国 Will Durant 写的名著《世界文明史》的第一卷《Our oriental heritage 》。
从名字看就是明显的西方中心。写于上世纪初期，其中对中国的描写还不错。我发现，
从16世纪到20世纪初期，凡是对东方有一点了解的，基本都是对中国观感不错。
但是在50年代以后，也就是中共上台，西方历史著作对中国人整体的评价急转直下了。

这几个地名都是不断变化的。比如亚细亚本来连阿拉伯，印度都不包括，后来连中国日
本都含进去了。
现在的阿非利加这个词一般说是罗马人起的名字，说的就是你说的北非西部那一块。罗
马还有一个阿非利加省。但是更早古希腊人那里，比如希罗多德时代，把埃及西边的北
非叫做利比亚。埃及南边叫做“阳光灼热之地”（Afriki)。把黑人叫做太阳之子，或
者阳光之子。
至于罗马人给迦太基那一代起的名字Africa，是不是意译或者音译了希腊人，是有争论
的。多半说是意译了希腊人的，也就是意思上也是“阳光之地”，但是位置不同，从罗
马的视角的南方，有了转移。后来被阿拉伯人抄去了。

school only.
if you want to be #1, it is easy - just use so many adjectives and
constraints that make your school #1.
for instance, Univ of Maryland is the best public school in east coast (near
DC). LOL. |

a subtle difference
"Just a kind reminder" infers that the reminder itself is a kind one. Kind
being an adjective describing reminder.
"Just a kindly reminder" infers that a reminder is being given kindly.
Kindly is an adverb describing how it is being given.
I think we would find that in some cases the first sentence is being used
incorrectly where they actually mean the second second sentence.
