kitten was found in such a poor condition it had to have an eye removed.
Geoffrey Arthur Fairhurst, 39, and Debra Leanne Fairhurst, 43, were found
guilty of ill treating a cat during a trial, after an RSPCA inspector
visited their Brookdale home to investigate complaints of several skinny
kittens on the property.
The inspector discovered Bear, a five-week-old kitten, with its right eye
protruding from the socket and lesions on its body.
Mr Fairhurst allegedly told the inspector they could not take the kitten to
the vet because they were could not afford it.
The kitten was placed in foster care to recover.
During sentencing today in the Armadale Magistrates Court, Magistrate
Elizabeth Langdon said the treating veterinary surgeon had commented that
the kitten would have suffered pain and should have been taken to the vet at
an earlier stage.
A treatment of antibiotics would have prevented the kitten's eye from being
removed.
Magistrate Langdon convicted Mrs Fairhurst of the offence and recorded a
spent conviction for Mr Fairhurst.
