Chua's view about Chinese mother is shockingly biased. AS A CHINESE MOTHER,
I DON'T WANT TO BE REPRESENTED BY AMY CHUA!
I was born and raised in China. I was not raised in Amy Chua’s way. I don't
believe in her way. My kids are still very little. But after they are old
enough to go to school, I will never raise them in Amy Chua’s way either.
All the Chinese parents I know here in the US are not parenting their kids
in Amy Chua’s way either. Education is important, but we also value many
other things, such as healthy personality, happiness, kindness, and
responsibility.... Success and fame to us are not as important as what are
to Amy Chua.
I guess many other Chinese mothers who are not like Amy Chua don't want to
be represented by her either.
Even though Amy Chua once clarified that she uses the “Chinese mother" and
“Western mother" terms loosely; unfortunately, she overwhelmingly gives
everybody impression that the demanding “cold-blooded" parenting style she
talks about is what CHINESE mothers usually do.
If Chua wants to talk about “permissive mother" or "demanding mother", say
so. Or she can just use “mother Amy Chua" to represent herself. Why does
she use an ethnicity-orientated term, which is inaccurate and offensive to
many of us who don’t want to be represented!
I felt hurt when reading Amy Chua’s writing. Amy Chua should apologize to
all the Chinese mothers whom she cannot represent at all! Chinese mothers
are not those cold-blooded controlling monsters and Chinese kids are not the
emotionless learning machines—the impression Amy Chua creates. | i**e 发帖数: 19242 | | s*****r 发帖数: 1032 | 3 I'd go a few days ago. Now I am mentally drained and have become
