发帖数: 11664 | 1 SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame senior David Ruffer, a walk-on from Oakton,
Va., has been named one of three finalists for the 2010 Lou Groza Collegiate
Place-Kicker Award.
Ruffer has converted all 15 field-goal attempts this season and is 20 for 20
in his brief career with the Fighting Irish (6-5), which is the longest
streak in program history and the longest active streak in the FBS. He has
added 32 extra points on 34 attempts this fall.
The only kicker with a perfect streak still intact, Ruffer's performance
this season is also a Notre Dame single-season record and is the fifth-most
in a season in South Bend. He had at least one field goal in 11 consecutive
games prior to Tulsa when he did not register an attempt. Nicholas Setta (
2000-02) holds the school record with a field goal in 16 straight games.
In a win over Pittsburgh earlier this season, Ruffer, also selected Tuesday
as a 2010 First Team ESPN Academic All-American with a 3.90 GPA, knocked
down a 50-yarder, landing on a list that included only five other Irish
kickers to record a field goal of at least that distance.
He will join Oklahoma State's Dan Bailey and Southern Mississippi's Danny
Hrapmann at a ceremony on Dec. 7 in West Palm Beach, Fla., and the winner
will be announced on the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show on
Dec. 9.
