bare bones expansion drive. It is not a Desk drive. It is a WD drive, not a
Buffalo drive. Its. (fill in the rest). It is what it says it is. Having
said this, for those few who just cant resist, dont forget to post how you
just bought a 2TB drive just the other day for about the same price as this
one. If that particular drive suits your current and near future needs, and
your not involved with photography, video, music, or are not disturbed by
having to monitor large file downloads or full backups, then good for you.
You probably bought the proper drive.
Currently the My Passport Essential SE is selling for $159.99 online at
Staples. Within the last day this went on sale and is in-stock at
MacConnection for $102. Earlier yesterday it showed the same price, but that
it was on-order. Which means Staples would not do a price match. Right now,
as long as it shows in stock online, Staples should honor the price match.
I never tried PMing MacConnection so I am also suggesting you try PMing B&H
Photo @ $109 should MacConnection not work. B&H has a limited supply. Both
sites offer FS, so no shipping prices will be added to the PM. If you dont
have a generic 25 off 75 or 25 off 100, buy one in the usual manner off of
eBay, ejunkie, or wherever.
Buying a USB 3.0 is a good choice over 2.0 if 1TB suits your current needs
now and several months ahead, and:If your PC or notebook is capable of
accepting, and you plan to install or have already installed a USB 3.0 PCIe
adapter card or USB 3.0 ExpressCard, or
If you plan to mod out your computer with a new USB 3.0 equipped motherboard
, or...
If you simply plan on waiting to buy a new USB 3.0 equipped computer when
they hit the market*
*Im pretty sure HP has a high end laptop out with installed USB 3.0. I dont
think there are any retail desktops out yet though. Anyway, when you do buy
one (which everyone eventually will) this drive will be good to go.
