In October 2013, in an episode of the Kids Table show on US government
shutdown and US debts, Jimmy Kimmel responded to the idea of killing all
Chinese in China to solve US debts issue as "an interesting idea" and soon
jokingly asked a follow up: “Should we allow the Chinese to live?”.[19]
The incident triggered discussions and protests on Internet, even from
Mainland China.[20] ABC later apologized. Some Asian-Americans thought the
apology lacks sincerity. They took to the streets, demanded "a more
elaborate apology and that an ABC representative come receive letters of
protest". In the show of October 28, Kimmel apologized for this controversy.
However, his casual words in the apology spurred more protest to Walt
Disney Co., ABC and himself. [21]

for this controversy, but still maintaining that Asian Americans did not
understand his joke, instead of apologizing for spreading the arrogant idea
that Chinese existence is subject to White's approval. The disagreement
resulting from different interpretations of the apology spurred more protest
to Walt Disney Co., ABC and himself. [21] Other Asians were also made upset
because they felt that if Chinese existence was up to White's approval,
then so might be theirs.
