401 | 6 No offense, but I have to say that I am a bit surprised about what other
people have said. But think abouut the following question:
in the world how many people (average joe) know oxford, vs how many
people know dartmouth. Since you have no idea what your future advisor
does, or you actually have no idea what your future direction, it is very
likely you will switch direction or do something else. In this case, go
to oxford. because you will at least get some benefit from oxford. Three
years late

f**n 发帖数: 401 | 7 Let me continue with my last post. Other people all favor dartmouth, and
they have legitimate arguments.
Now let us talk about academic track, i.e., the case when you really want
to be a faculty somewhere, and do first-class research.
You have mentioned that in Dartmouth you are in a department of a dozen
faculty. Remember Dartmouth is in New Hampshire, i.e., in the middle of
nowhere. How much academic activity do you expect with a dozen faculty?
Some of them are old, some of them do things you

f**n 发帖数: 401 | 8 Finally, let me give credit to what other people have said:
it is perhaps more difficult to residence in UK, since UK is not a pro-
immigration country. It means you will have to relocate after you get
your PHD. I have to admit it is a problem. However, since you assume
you will get a phd somewhere, you assume consequently that you will follow
a research career path or semi-research career path. That is, you will
either become a faculty, or go to industrial lab somewhere. For example,
imagine MI

No way to answer OP's question unless we know what he likes.
For people like me who is determined to stay abroad and don't want
a faculty life, UK is not my choice. I would even consider switching
to an MS once arriving in USA so I could start working in industry
sooner.
